About Fish and Chips Near Me
Fish and Chips Near Me is a directory of fish and chip shops across every Australian state and territory. You can search by suburb or by what is near you, and get the address, phone number, opening hours, photos, Google rating and, where we could find one, the menu.
It is free to use and free to be listed in.
Who runs it
My name is Ryan and I build and run this site from Adelaide, South Australia. It is an independent site. I do not own or operate any of the shops listed here, and no shop can pay to change what this site says about it.
If you need to reach me, email hello@fishandchipsnearme.au or use the contact form. Both come to me.
Why it exists
Australian fish and chip shops are badly served online. Around four in ten have no website at all. Of the ones that do, plenty publish their menu as a photograph, or only on Facebook, or through an ordering platform that search engines cannot read. The information exists. It is just scattered across places that are awkward to search when you are standing on a footpath at six on a Friday deciding where to eat.
So this site pulls it into one place, one page per shop and one page per suburb, and adds what the raw data will support: which fish a shop actually stocks, whether it does potato cakes or potato scallops, what its menu charged when we collected it, whether it caters for gluten free or halal.
That last part turned out to be more interesting than I expected. Working through the menus, some genuine regional patterns fell out of the data. Nine in ten Victorian menus we could read use the word flake, and so do most Tasmanian and South Australian ones, but in Western Australia almost nobody does. The same fish is sold there as shark or gummy. South Australia calls a potato cake a fritter and essentially nowhere else does. “Fish cocktail” is a New South Wales term, on three quarters of the NSW menus we read and on almost no Victorian ones. Those findings became the articles on this site, and each one reports the analysis it came from rather than restating what everyone already knows about fish and chips.
Where the information comes from
The listings are built from publicly available Google Business Profile data collected in May 2026, plus menus gathered from shops’ own websites. The written summaries on listing and suburb pages are drafted by software from that data and then checked automatically. The articles report original analysis of the whole dataset and are checked by a person before publication.
That is the short version. The long version, including what we know the data gets wrong, is on the Editorial and Data Policy page, and it is worth reading before you rely on an opening time.
If it is your shop
Anything wrong on your listing, tell me and I will fix it. No charge, and you do not need to buy anything. Hours, phone number, address, menu, photos, or the whole listing taken down if that is what you want. Email hello@fishandchipsnearme.au or use the contact form.
Separately, if you want a fuller page with your own photos and your menu on it, there are paid listing options on the advertise page. That is entirely optional. It has no bearing on whether you are listed, on where you appear, or on what the site says about you.
Spotted a shop we have missed?
Send it through. Suggestions and closure reports both go to the same place, and I read every one.
