About
Innes Boatshed is a well-rated fish and chip shop and seafood restaurant on the waterfront at Batemans Bay, drawing a steady crowd of locals and visitors alike. The venue serves both dine-in and takeaway, with outdoor seating that looks directly over the water. Wheelchair access is available throughout, and families are well catered for with a kids’ menu and high chairs on hand.
The menu centres on fresh local seafood, and the fish and chips family meal is the signature draw. Regulars favour the generously portioned family pack, which consistently earns praise for its fresh fish and well-battered coating. Opinions on the chips vary across reviews, though the quality of the seafood itself is a consistent highlight. Vegetarian options and coffee are also available alongside the core seafood menu.
A point of difference at Innes Boatshed is the daily lunch cruise departing at 11:30 am to Nelligen along the Clyde River. The cruise runs approximately three hours and includes fish, chips, and salad served on board, making it a popular outing for both tourists and Batemans Bay regulars. The experience has developed a strong following in its own right.
Card and mobile payments are accepted, free parking is available nearby, and a wait is fairly typical during busy periods. A solid four-plus-star reputation across a large number of reviews speaks to consistent quality over time. Phone ahead during peak periods or arrive early to secure a table.

Among the many seafood restaurants in Batemans Bay, we chose Innes Boatshed — and we’re glad we did! The two of us ordered the Family Pack, which turned out to be way too much food (our own greed, not their fault!). It came with two long pieces of grenadier, six generously sized fish pieces, and a medium serve of chips.
The fish was very fresh, with a light, crispy batter that wasn’t heavy at all. But I’d suggest not ordering too much — we had to take some home, and fried fish just never tastes as good once it’s cooled. We also ordered the prawn tray — the prawns were super fresh, and next time we’ll definitely go for the 1/2 kilo option!
The place was clean, staff were friendly, and sitting by the river made for such a peaceful, relaxing meal.
Great Fish and Chips dinner at the Boatshed. Views at Batesman Bay were beautiful and the fish and chips were fresh, high quality and tasted delicious.
Service was prompt and the price was of value, anything below $20 per pax for a meal seems to be decently price.
Recommend this place if you pass by Batemans Bay during your road trip.
Excellent seafood restaurant by the river with options for river cruise up and down the Clyde River. Popular place and cruise with tourists and locals. Whole river trip is about 3 hours and you get excellent fish, chips and salad served on board. The boat ride was calm and lots of birds can be sighted on route. You can choose to have lunch instead at the wharf instead of on the cruise. Good prices and service at restaurant and boat.
I really enjoyed the boat trip with Escapade Daily River Cruise. It was a wonderful experience. The staff shared interesting stories about the local environment throughout the ride. The boat has plenty of seating and even a bar serving food and drinks.
I tried the fish and chips onboard; hot, fresh, and made from the daily catch, absolutely delicious! They also offered free tea and biscuits, which was a nice touch.
The lower deck has tables and seats, while the upper deck has only seats, with strong, chilly winds (which I personally loved!). Overall, a relaxing and well-organized cruise ; definitely worth joining!
Very enjoyable 3 hour cruise with lunch. The fish and chips was delicious and a really generous serving and the cruise was enjoyable and relaxing with the captain Billy-Jean giving great commentary on the area. All in all great value and enjoyable! Recommended!
Pretty good fish and chips. Best part is that you can get flake here. Being Victorian have struggled to get flake and I am told that it’s not popular up here in NSW? Anyway, the Boatshed has it, and the flake was very very fresh and really good. Service is super quick.
Two dining areas: one at front facing the street; and, one out back on the deck facing the water. Great aspect; great central location.
All good. Many thanks.
We visited Innes Boatshed late in the afternoon after spending the day outdoors, just around closing time.
We ordered a range of Fish & Chips from the Catch of the Day along with calamari, potato scallops, and a serve of fries. The fish was exceptionally fresh — light, flaky, and perfectly cooked with a crisp, golden batter that wasn’t oily at all.
The outdoor seating overlooking the bay adds to the experience, especially in the evening light. Fresh seafood, efficient service, and a relaxed waterfront setting.
Overall the food was very refreshing and a good break after a busy day.
***They also offer a Steamed Fish option in case you are trying to avoid calories.
Will highly recommend…
Fish was battered and fried fresh!(portion of the kitchen is clear to see)
Fish was very tasty and the batter was perfect! Prices are acceptable. Would recommend this place for a classic fish and chips
