About
The Swordfish Co Budgewoi is a well-regarded fish and chip shop on the New South Wales Central Coast, pulling in solid four-plus stars across a strong number of reviews. The menu leans heavily into fresh seafood, and regulars consistently point to the generous portion sizes as one of the shop’s most appealing qualities. Fish cocktails, calamari, and a seafood platter for two are among the more popular choices, and the prawn roll gets a mention for its fresh ingredients and satisfying size.
The seafood platter draws plenty of repeat visits, and the fish on offer, including hoki, wins over even those who aren’t usually fans of the variety. Freshness is a recurring theme, and the pricing is considered excellent value for what arrives on the plate. Staff are noted for their friendly manner and willingness to offer genuine recommendations, which makes for a relaxed and welcoming experience.
Beyond the fish and chips, The Swordfish Co Budgewoi holds a liquor licence and serves beer, wine, and cocktails alongside coffee and gelato, giving it more of a casual cafe feel than a traditional chippie. Vegetarian options and desserts round out the menu. The venue is fully wheelchair accessible, family friendly with a kids’ menu available, and open for lunch and dinner daily. Dine-in and takeaway are both on offer, with outdoor seating and free parking making it a convenient stop for locals, families, and visitors passing through the area.

Talk about value for money!!! Seriously the serving sizes for their fish cocktails were huge. Definitely worth more than the price we paid. The staff were so sweet and gave us personal recommendations that didn’t disappoint. The place is situated right alongside the budgewoi lake and has a themed dining area to match the environment. It’s peaceful, bird free (a must for me) and delicious food at affordable prices with a beautiful view. It doesn’t get better than this
Ps- we ate the food before i could take a pic oops
We had lunch here today, but unfortunately it didn’t live up to the expectations set by other reviews. We spent $90, which felt wasted due to the quality of the food. Most of the deep-fried items were coated in extremely thick, doughy batter that really let the meal down.
My son had the burger and said it was good, so that was a plus. However, the potato scallops were soggy and, sadly, some of the worst I’ve had.
This is a MAGNIFICENT fish & chips cafe. I have been going there for 2 years now and the quality is second to none, the seafood is fresh and the service is very friendly. They also make good coffee and have gelato and are licensed. Attached are photos spanning 1 year. The order is; 1 Fish Cocktail Pack, 1 Salt & Pepper Squid Pack & 5 Calamari rings.
The food was amazing! 10/10 for freshness and taste and pricing!
Staff were friendly.
We got The seafood co platter for 2 and it did not disappoint 🙌 absolutely delicious! My partner isnt a fan of hoki but loved it. Was 1 of the nicest pieces of fish his had in a while.
We rate this higher then the platter we got from scratchlys!
I visited The Swordfish Co Budgewoi today and overall had a really good experience.
The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made a big difference. The food was extremely fresh and tasted great — you can tell the quality is there.
The only let-down was that I ordered 20 fish cocktails and spent over $100, but no lemon was included. For that size order, you’d expect at least a lemon or to be asked if you’d like one — especially with seafood.
That aside, the freshness and service were excellent. A small detail like lemon would’ve taken this from good to great.
This place is one of the few remaining ( for lack of a better term) “ fish and chip “ shops around that are any good.
The main furnishings are basic wooden picnic tables but has a strong nautical feel throughout and it’s a great place to sit and eat on the edge of the water.
There is plenty of seating is available, family and child friendly with high chairs available and a small boat for the kids to play in.
Just outside, Kids and tourists alike fish off the banks and jetty here, there’s also plenty of ducks and wildlife around so always plenty to see.
The fish cocktails are very good here, ( hoki ) fish is lovely and fluffy and the batter is light and crispy, other kinds of fish are also available.
All food is always hot and fresh, although they do not drain their food long enough which makes it oily, chips are mediocre because they are never cooked for long enough, but could easily be improved by cooking and draining a little longer.
The coffee and milkshakes are ok, not the best but passable.
A variety of Alcohol is also available.
Scoop Ice cream available.
Some Fresh cold seafood/ prawns etc available per kg.
Family and wallet friendly

A nice spot sitting beside Budgewoi Creek. Very good prices compared to most places and the Burger with the lot was as tasty as you could possibly like. The staff were friendly and helpful. It’s quite a tranquil and scenic spot. You can fish off the wharf only metres away.Parking is on the road right outside
