About
The Fishbox & Co is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in Carss Park, serving the St George area with dine-in, takeaway, and delivery across lunch and dinner throughout the week. With outdoor seating, free parking right out front, and wheelchair access, it’s a practical and welcoming spot for families, solo diners, and groups alike.
The menu covers the classics done well. Beer-battered fish arrives crispy and fresh, chips are golden on the outside with fluffy potato inside, and the calamari rings are made in-house, which shows in the flavour. Potato scallops are fried to a satisfying crisp rather than the soggy, oily variety you sometimes encounter elsewhere. Generous portions are a recurring theme, with regulars often finding a little extra calamari tucked into their box. A fisherman’s basket option rounds out the menu for those after a more substantial feed, and at very reasonable prices compared to similar offerings across Sydney.
Meals are mostly made to order, so there can be a short wait during busy periods. The staff are noted for being friendly and courteous, keeping the experience relaxed whether you’re eating in or grabbing takeaway to enjoy near the bay. The shop carries a solid four-plus-star reputation across a strong volume of reviews, reflecting consistent quality rather than a one-off good day.
The Fishbox & Co is closed Mondays but open Tuesday through Sunday. Phone ahead during the Friday and Saturday dinner rush to keep wait times down.

We’ve ordered takeaway to take down to the bay and on both occasions we’ve been happy with our meals.
Most meals are made to order so depending how busy it is, you may have to wait. Staff seems friendly and courteous, if you’re after a healthier alternative (non fried) they offer a selection of salads, poke bowls, cold prawns and oysters.
My favourite is the Salmon Poke Bowl, serving size and dressing is just right. My kids have tried the kids meal and we like that it’s not traditional chicken nuggets and fish fingers, it’s actually battered pieces of chicken and fish. They also like the cheeseburger and sweet potato chips.
Happy to come back and try other items on the menu 😊
In a quiet street. A clean trendy looking fish and chips shop with friendly attentive staff. Cool menu design with variety of seafood. The portions are small comparing with the price. The calamari is with too much crumbs and my daughter didn’t like it. The oysters were only half fresh and half old and could not eat the last one. The only thing which was good was the chips.
Super fresh fish and chips. Easy park right out front. The guy is friendly and the portions are very generous. Always happy to find an extra calamari or two in my box. Their potato scallop is fried to crispy perfection- not a soggy oily mess. Love great local businesses!
Positive
Enjoyed the beer battered fish and chips very much. $17
The calamari rings are made in-house, so they are very tasty. $11
The chips are perfectly crisp with fluffy potato inside.
You can eat inside in comfort or outside on footpath although with a Carrs park at the end of the street you are spoilt for choice.
Negative
This is all great, but you know how you order a few calamari, and they chuck in a few extra to be generous and leave a good impression. This would not happen here we got exactly six.
Everything felt extremely measured and weighed.
My pet hate is stinginess with chips. They are cheap and fill you up, so why not be generous with them to satisfy customer?
It felt like someone counted out fifteen chips. I do not think fish and chips would satisfy hunger. We only got by because we bought calamari rings as well at $2 each!!!
This is good quality food but boutique servings which comes with boutique price.
Some of the best fish and chips I’ve had.
Good options
Great prices ( $24 for a fisherman’s type basket, vs $34 for the same thing I had in
Drummoyne , with out the extra cost to set down as well)
Not a bad place to sit out side.
Staff were very friendly and accommodating
Overall: 3/7
Was enticed by the prospect of a good lobster roll given the price, but was sorely disappointed.
Haven’t tried the other items on the menu but those could be good.
Staff are friendly and the venue is quite nice.
Lobster roll: 3/7
For almost 30AUD you’d really expect something more substantive. This roll was filled with 70%+ coleslaw and just ruined the experience. Could hardly notice the lobster in its midst.
It was admittedly quite fresh, but certainly not worth the price.
Chanced upon this hidden gem of a place while my driving through the A1 on our family roadtrip. Was pleasantly surprised at how fresh and delicious the food is here, special mention to the lobster roll which packs a punch. Staff were friendly and welcoming, felt right at home despite being from out of town, will be back here when we can!
We had a really enjoyable meal here. The grilled fish and chips were cooked perfectly. The fish was fresh, tender, and well-seasoned, with a light garlic flavour that didn’t overpower it. The chips were golden, crispy, and served hot, and the tartare sauce paired beautifully with the dish. The lemon wedge added a nice fresh touch.
The portion size was generous and the presentation was simple yet appealing. Overall, it was a satisfying, comforting meal made with good-quality ingredients. Definitely a great place to enjoy classic fish and chips we’d happily come back again.
