About
Gus’s Seafood has been a firm favourite in Riverwood for many years, drawing regulars from across Sydney who keep coming back for the shop’s light, crispy batter made from a long-standing family recipe. The signature battered fish and chips are the heart of the menu, and the batter itself is consistently praised for being delicate without being thin, with a generous serve of chips alongside. Battered bream and battered whiting are popular choices, and the Tasmanian scallops are a standout item that regulars mention by name.
Beyond the classics, the menu carries some genuinely memorable extras. Doug’s home-made spring rolls have their own following, and the legendary garlic BBQ prawns are the kind of dish people drive across town for. The BBQ seafood platter, calamari, hand-dipped potato scallops, and fresh fish burgers round things out nicely, giving the menu real depth for a neighbourhood fish and chip shop. Portion sizes are generous and prices are considered very fair, which helps explain the well-rated reputation this Riverwood shop has built across hundreds of reviews.
Gus’s is open seven days a week from 8am to 8pm, with dine-in available alongside takeaway and delivery. Outdoor seating makes it a comfortable spot for families, and the atmosphere is casual and welcoming. Staff are noted for being friendly and efficient, and the overall experience is the kind that brings people back year after year, sometimes after decades away.
Phone ahead during the dinner rush if you’re planning a large order.

Hubby and I ordered snapper fillets battered with chips, and potato fritters.
Cooked to perfection 🥰
Soft chips and batter on fish is just right,
some places have thick as batter and thin fish.
Use to come here all the time when we were living in Riverwood 6 yrs ago.
Thank you very much ❤
Amazing place and taste just as good as it did 10 years ago when I was just a student working in the area and the owner hasn’t changed. I highly recommend the fish burger and the Tasmanian scallops. They’re soo good and affordable at 6 for $12. Unheard of and full of meat and they juicy and tender. The owner and staff are very nice friendly and supportive if you need help deciding on what to get. The fish burger was still $10 and just as amazing and refreshing with the lettuce and tomato inside. There plenty of street parking and there’s a sink to wash your hands there. I don’t think the prices have changed much but highly recommend visiting if you’re in the area or love your fish and chips.
Spent $85 on 2 Danielle Gym packs and 10 Calamari rings, and I was disgusted at the quality and preparation of the food. One piece of fish was burnt to a crisp, and the other was very undercooked. Prawns and calamari were stone cold. I ordered via Uber and priority and the food was delivered within 15 mins, so no excuses. I have previously supported this business, however have noticed a steep decline in recent times. Never again.
This place always brings out childhood memories, it’s the best and freshest seafood in the area even though now I live 40 mins away it’s always worth the drive to come and taste Old Skool fish and chips the way it’s meant to be done, The quality is always incredible I’ve never been disappointed ordering at Gus’s!

“Fresh, Delicious & Friendly Service!”
Gus’s Seafood is hands down one of the best seafood spots in Sydney. The fish is always fresh, perfectly cooked, and never greasy. Their calamari and prawns are tender and full of flavour, and the chips are crispy on the outside and fluffy inside — just the way they should be.
What makes it even better is the warm and friendly service; you can tell they really care about quality and their customers. Whether it’s for a quick takeaway or a family seafood feast, Gus’s never disappoints. Highly recommend the grilled fish pack and garlic prawns — simply outstanding
