About
Surf Beach Cafe & Takeaway is a casual, well-loved spot on the New South Wales South Coast, serving up everything from breakfast through to late afternoon across its dine-in and takeaway options. The menu covers a lot of ground, with fish and chips, a seafood basket, burgers, and breakfast staples all making regular appearances. The fish burger and the bacon and egg roll are particular favourites, with the latter drawing the kind of nostalgic praise that keeps people coming back. Simple food, done well, seems to be the shop’s defining approach.
The milkshakes have developed something of a reputation around Surf Beach, with large serves at an honest price and the option to add malt. The coffee is consistently well-regarded too, making this just as much a cafe as a fish and chip shop. Vegan and vegetarian options are available alongside the standard menu, and the kids’ menu makes it a practical stop for families. The venue is fully wheelchair accessible, with an accessible car park, entrance, and seating.
With 484 reviews and a solid four-plus star reputation, the cafe has clearly earned its following. Staff are noted for being warm and attentive, and the kitchen moves quickly even when the place is busy. Outdoor seating adds an extra draw for those wanting to eat in the open air.
Phone ahead during busy periods, particularly in holiday season, as the venue is popular with both locals and visitors to the area.

Conveniently located at one end the beach.
Nice hot food and pastries. Fish and chips were tasty. Good coffee too.
Came on Easter Sunday after hours but they stayed open a little longer to make food and drinks. The place was busy but things went smoothly with a bit of patience.
Friendly service. Tables and chairs inside and outside.
The best milkshake I’ve had in yonks, $7.50 for a large that’s actually massive and you can add malt. Incredible. The staff were so great and nice and everything came so quickly. Might have to make the 3 hour drive just for the milkshake again.
So it’s a CAFE and takeaway, but if eating in you’re served your food in cardboard boxes with wooden cutlery. When I asked about this they said that they are a takeaway business and you have to request plates if eating in. Suggestion: Remove the reference to “CAFE” in the name, remove the tables and chairs, but if they are left at least give a customer a plate if you see them struggling to eat out of a box at a table! Hospitality virtually non existent.
Lovely little beach side coffee shop. Good coffee, great food, and a view that is hard to beat.
The perfect beach take away shop. Includes great coffee and early opening. 👌
One of the best grilled chicken burgers I’ve had in a long time (maybe ever), just simple food done well. We were staying nearby for a holiday and on our last night decided to get burgers and chips for dinner by the beach – my only regret is not trying out the food earlier during our holiday! Will definitely be back next time we visit!
I never review anything but I thought the bacon and egg burger was exceptional. Reminds me of what my mum used to make Saturday mornings when I was a kid. Brews were awesome too!
A very long wait (almost an hour), got the burgers 25 minutes before the fried food elements. No lemon with the seafood even though I paid for extra & I paid for chicken salt but had no salt on the food at all. The staff were lovely and location perfect but the quality and timing really let it down.quite disappointing as the reviews didn’t reflect the reality.
