About
Riverside Takeaway is a well-rated fish and chip shop in Woronora, tucked alongside the river in a park setting that makes it genuinely different from most suburban takeaways. Dine-in, takeaway, and delivery are all available, and outdoor seating lets visitors eat with the river right beside them. Free parking adds to the ease of a visit.
The menu covers the classics well. Fish and chips are a firm favourite with regulars, and the seafood basket for two is a standout for value. Potato scallops and Chiko Rolls round out the traditional offerings, while the burgers have earned a loyal following of their own, with generous fillings that locals notice and appreciate. For anyone exploring the Woronora area, the food hits the mark without stretching the budget.
Value for money comes up again and again. Prices are described as genuinely old-school fair, the kind that have become rare around Sydney. Serves are solid, wait times are short, and the staff are noted for friendly, efficient service. The combination makes it a reliable stop for families, kayakers coming off the river, and anyone passing through the area.
Riverside Takeaway is family-friendly and suited to a relaxed meal outdoors. Phone ahead during busy periods to keep things moving.

Yummy fish and chips, perfect location too. We often kayak along the river and then come over for fish and chips in the park.
It’s reasonably priced too, a seafood basket for two is $19.95 and there’s plenty of outdoor seating if you aren’t keen on the picnic.
They are also efficient, friendly and a great place to eat.
Nice place to stop for lunch if you are doing the Woronora Bridge Scenic Walk. Ordered a Beef Burger combo ($14). Burger was old school milk bar style with beetroot, very tasty. Chips were freshly cooked and well salted. Combo came with a can of drink. Also ordered a toasted ham, cheese and tomato sandwich which was a bit average. Bread was toasted on a grill and was mostly untoasted except for a few grill marks. Ample outdoor seating with nice views of the river. Staff weren’t in a happy mood on this visit. Speaker outside announces order numbers as they are ready.
Waited 15 mins for the worst hamburger I’ve ever seen in my whole life. Giant Stale bun with a meat pattie the size of a 50c piece on it with a mountain of lettuce and the end of a tomato. Had two bits out of it and didn’t hit meat once and threw it into the garden for the magpies
Giving highest ratings because of the price and wait time
These are old school prices, very very fair for the food which you get
Also you get the Woronora river right next to it
Cannot complain and every bad review needs to shut up because the price and atmosphere is fantastic
Bang for BUCK!
The quality of the food was so good! Prices that you just can’t get around town any more!
Also the amount of chicken they put in the spicy burger was very generous, so good! And the girls work really hard great little spot by the river will definitely be back!
Cute, old style place, similar to what a deli looked liked in the 70s with good priced food . A small park next to the shop if you like to sit and have water views
Ordered a veggie burger without beetroot. They still put beetroot on the burger (and cheese, which wasn’t on the menu). I noticed the beetroot, and their ‘fix’ was to take it off the burger and hand it back to me, despite the beetroot/juices having soaked through the rest of the burger. I tried to question it further but the worker just pushed the burger and chips closer to me and made me feel pressured to take it and leave, which I reluctantly did. Bitterly disappointed after a half hour wait. I will not return, frustratingly.
This little eatery is a hidden gem serving the locals and those going through this area. The team has excellent service and nice hot food with outdoor seating. Perfect stopover!
