About
Alice Fish & Chips is a casual fish and chip shop in Alice Springs, serving up lunch and dinner for locals and visitors alike. The venue offers both dine-in and takeaway, with free parking on the street and in the adjoining car park. Families are well catered for, and the relaxed setup suits a quick weeknight meal just as easily as a sit-down lunch.
The menu includes seafood baskets cooked to order, with the option to swap in barramundi for an upgrade. Regulars mention the fish arriving crispy and well-seasoned, with generous chip serves that lean toward the satisfying side of filling. Potato cakes are also on offer. Under current ownership, the quality has noticeably lifted, with the batter in particular drawing positive attention.
Alice Springs doesn’t have a long list of dedicated fish and chip shops, which makes this one a practical and popular choice for anyone after a solid seafood feed in the Northern Territory. The shop is family friendly, and both dine-in and takeaway are available. During busy periods, phoning ahead may save some wait time at the counter.

Excellent fish and chips. Generous portions. (Disclaimer: already ate some of the chips in the photo)
Fish and Chips were nice, however the potato cakes tasted like they had been cooked in sesame oil, they were not cooked in the same oil as the fish and chips. Wait time was excessive, and they NEVER EVER answer the phone, and it was not even busy, the store was empty, so its impossible to place a phone order, you have to physically go to the store to place the order then wait around for 30+ minutes to collect your order. only had 2 staff working, they obviously need to hire more staff!
New owners have improved the food. The fish is now crispy and tastes great! Chips really nice too, and not too much salt!
Had Alice Fish and Chips tonight and it was unreal, everything was cooked to perfection, mate and I had seafood baskets and yum! You can get a fresh salad to go with as well from the S-Way store next door…highly recommend
David was kind and helpful. We also got the offer to change 1 of the Hake in Seafood Meal into Barramundi just for an additional A$5. As I was dining inside the store on arvo Sunday 28th of July 2024, I saw the orders taken care of effectively, no long waits, even with only 2 staffs.
The atmosphere was adequate. For in-store dining, the oil steams were immediately taken out by the exhaust. You can still catch a little of the steam, though. It’s better to eat in the afresco area when the weather is good.
Unfortunately the food was not to my liking. To be courteous, I don’t think it fits my Balinese tongue as I don’t like excessive oil on my meals. I think it’s more because of Australian taste instead of Balinese. We weren’t asked whether we want our fish crumbed with flour or not. Even so, the fishes were well cooked so I can eat them without the breading. You can also ask for extra tartare or alioli for A$1 each. I also happen to get only 1 seafood stick instead of 2 in the Seafood Meal. Pretty average place, for me.
In short, this place is just an ordinary place. If you want gourmet fish, this is not the place. But remember that you can cook by yourself, like for the schnitzel and chips. Then, it’d be cheaper and it will taste the same. Maybe you will end up dining here, except when you have read this review properly.
Friendly staff and very fast wait time. But there was way too much batter on the fish it was inedible. The chips were nice but weren’t salted.
Consistently disappointing. The batter, over cooked fish, undercooked chips, lack of salt. It’s consistently not been a good experience.
So disappointed, fish was greasy and overcooked, chips were stale and were not crispy at all. Expensive but was hoping for great, never to return. Sorry saying it how it was.
