About
Catch ‘N’ Cook Seafood & Burger Bar is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in Charters Towers, pulling in solid four-plus-star approval from a generous pool of visitors and locals alike. It operates as a casual dine-in and takeaway spot, open for both lunch and dinner, with outdoor seating and free parking on site. No reservations are taken, so a queue at busy times is part of the deal.
The menu leans into fresh, generous cooking that regulars say feels like a proper old-school chippery. Barramundi, grilled red emperor, and mackerel burgers all get a regular run, with fish portions described as thick slabs rather than token fillets. Chips come out crunchy, salads are stacked, and plates arrive looking like genuine value for money. The mackerel burger in particular draws attention for its soft bun, fresh salad, and a hefty piece of battered fish that fills the bun the way it should.
Service is cheerful even when the kitchen is flat out under pressure, which it often is during the dinner rush. The wait can stretch to the better part of an hour on busy nights, but most who make the trip leave satisfied. The shop is family friendly, and a kids’ menu means younger diners are looked after.
For anyone passing through or living in the Charters Towers area, Catch ‘N’ Cook is the kind of fish and chips spot that reminds you why the format has lasted so long. Phone ahead to gauge wait times before heading in for dinner.

catch and cook has some of the best cheese chips and gravy i’ve ever had.
they are always perfect and i find their gravy amazing. they have a great snack and dinner menu as well. though sometimes the wait can a a fair while.
they have seating both inside and outside which is great for eating in as well.
The way a fish and chip shop used to be. This place is authentic and so good.
I had an amazing fish burger and the best chips.
Washed down with a locally made (I think) Sarsaparilla.
Ordered the mackerel burger with 1/2 scoop of chips…. absolutely amazing. Serving size was huge. Thick slab of fish inside the batter, fresh salad and soft bun. Fair price for the size.
After reading the reviews we decided it was our place for tea….
Busy as the staff were flat out yet had time to smile 😊…50 minutes wait!
Yes it was worth it.
The grilled red emperor was moist and tasty plus a generous serve of crunchy beer batter chips.
My hamburger 🍔 with the lot was very filling with salad, caramelized onions and a very tasty homemade hamburger 😋
We also tried the soft drinks that is made in Charters Towers and we hadn’t seen anywhere else.
Food was over and above expectations. Large qualities of salad and chips and the barramundi took up half the plate. It tasted fresh and smelt amazing. Needs more table and chairs outside, but just my opinion.
Tried the place for a healthier burger than Maccas. Really nice homemade burgers. Shop run by an older lady whom takes pride in homemade quality. Have bought food from here more than once now.
If you want over-priced & extremely over-cooked fish..purchase from here. Staff are lovely, but I won’t buy from here again.
I am very fussy with my food and am a burger connoisseur. I try new places everywhere and it can be a real hit and a miss somtimes..
This place has the best hamburgers around!! Haven’t had one this good from as long as I can remember.
Been here 3 times so it’s not a fluke.
I add pineapple and bacon to mine. Couldn’t fault a thing! Perfect 😍👌
I’ve tried another burger in charters which wasn’t too bad, but was a bought paddy.. which i reckon are rubbish.
These guys have delicious home made paddies. There chips are great too!
Great old fashioned friendly service.
Come check it out and see if there as good as i say!
