About
Munch Takeaway Café is a casual fish and chip shop in North Lakes, Queensland, covering the full spread of meal times with breakfast, lunch, and dinner service. It operates as a café, takeaway, and hamburger restaurant all rolled into one, with dine-in seating, outdoor seating, delivery, and takeaway available for regulars and newcomers alike.
The menu leans into hearty, filling portions. The signature fish and chips comes in a solid serve, and the chips have a reputation for being crunchy and hot. The Seafood Basket is a crowd-pleasing option for anyone wanting more variety from the fryer, while the pineapple fritters and Dagwood dog add a fun, old-school touch to the lineup. Burgers are popular too, with a Burger for Two on the menu alongside options like the Mexicano Wrap. Portions across the board tend to be generous, which suits families well. The venue is halal-friendly, offers a kids’ menu, vegetarian options, and holds a full alcohol licence.
Reviews paint a mixed picture overall. Fish quality and meal consistency vary across visits, and a handful of experiences have been disappointing. On the better days, the fish is a good size piece, the chips are properly crunchy, and the staff are friendly and attentive. The owner draws genuine warmth from regulars who appreciate the personal touch.
It suits families looking for a relaxed sit-down or a quick takeaway in the North Lakes area. Phone ahead during busy meal times to confirm wait times.

I spent $24 on $8 chips, 4 potato scallops and 1 large gravey. Chips were inedible, potato scallops undercooked and gravey was gelatin consistency and stone cold. Very disappointing and will not return.
Always great food, the owner is such a great guy. The only reason I gave it a 4 star is because when we ordered the works burger we asked for no egg because my partner is allergic to them and the young boy that served and made our meal put an egg in. Other than that, this place is great, we still go there and my partner and his work colleagues go there every 2nd day to get their lunch.
I miss Baz. This used to be one of my favourite places to eat, I absolutely loved the Mexicano wrap and the Mediterranean wrap but ever since new management/ownership have taken over the food has been disappointing. Recently the price of things have gone up and the quality has become shocking. I got the Mexicano wrap today and it was missing ingredients and was not a wrap? It was a bunch of meat, lettuce and tomato on a wrap folded in half with no cheese or sour cream. An almost $16 wrap and it was completely not worth it. So sad I won’t be able to enjoy the food from here anymore.
Have been over charged the 3 times i have gotten it, they dont complete the food and forget ingredients. Bad attitude
Tried the basic one.
Huge portion, fairly seasoned.
Unfortunately the bread isn’t toasted, the patty is a patty, I wouldn’t say it’s tasty.
Yet, delightfully, I’m really full, unlike having fast food burgers.
Fries are a bit salty but fair.
Terrible. Crumbed Cod dry and cold, calamari tasteless and warm the whole meal was awful. I threw it out. I haven’t been there for atleast 7 years and I now remember why.
I genuinely really loved their fish n chips. Fish was good size piece and the chips were super crunchy. Plus the 2 guys working there were really nice and polite. Great service.
DO NOT GO HERE if you think a burger starts with the basic ingredients of a bun, a meat patty, a slice of tomato and a piece of lettuce.
I made the mistake of ordering an egg burger and assumed I would get the basic ingredients of a burger plus an egg but I was so wrong! The basics cost extra! I was charged $11 for the bun and an egg and nothing else!! The Fish for 2 is no longer the delicious meal it use to be like with the previous owners. Now I think they use frozen fish out of a box and still charge $30+ for it plus rubbery calamari rings. What a joke!
