About
Kings Road Fish Bar is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in Pimlico, Townsville, drawing a strong following with a reputation built on its battered and crumbed fish. The battered fish and chips is the signature here, and regulars consistently point to the quality of the batter, tender fish, and the overall freshness of the seafood on offer. Calamari is another crowd favourite, and the menu stretches further with prawn cutlets, sea scallops, Moreton Bay bugs, a fish burger, and a fish sandwich, making it a solid choice for anyone after more than just the basics.
The shop suits a range of dining situations, with dine-in and takeaway both available, plus kerbside pickup and drive-through for those in a hurry. Service is notably quick, which is handy at busy meal times. Families are well catered for with a dedicated kids’ menu, and the venue is welcoming to all, including four-legged companions.
It is worth noting that pricing sits at the higher end compared to many fish and chips spots around Townsville, so it is best approached as a treat rather than a budget meal. Chip texture can vary, with hand-cut chips on the menu that divide opinion, though the fish itself earns consistent praise across the board.

Just now. Crumbed barra. Lot burger small chips. Great group of people nice to see people working and having a laugh. Hand cut cups are pretty good for hand cut. But I do prefer frozen chips. Usually crispier. But at least there’s a shop that understands how to put salt on chips. Good one. Burger was tasty but bun didn’t hold up, got a bit soggy. I prefer a house made patty, but this pre bought one was nice. Grated cheese on the burger was a bit different but a nice change. Overall everything cooked well and tasted good.
Missing the mark lately. Haven’t been able to eat what we bought twice in the last few months. Has been great before. I hope it improves as it has been out go-to fishbar for a few years now. Please take a little more care I want it to do great again.
My favourite fish bar! The battered fish and the chips are still crunchy by the time I get home (10 to 15 minutes) the staff are friendly. And its very affordable too!! They could only be better if they sold sea shantys. Ifykyk 😁 no photos because I ate it
I have been going to this shop for years. I recently ordered a fish and salad sandwich. To my disappointment the staff did not use tongs or gloves to make the sandwich. Bare hands no washing hands prior to making sandwich. The service was atrocious with a grunt none of the friendly banter that you are usually greeted with.
Very disappointed.
Terrible customer service! Whilst trying to read the menu and decide what to get, a sweaty, frizzy haired woman at the till was trying to rush us and kept talking over us. An equally sweaty, condescending little man was trying to make jokes that we were indecisive. Well, if you would just let us look at the menu, let us decide and not rush us, that would make a start! It wasn’t even busy in there. 0 stars for terrible customer service. I think the owners are new. Luckily, the battered mackerel and prawn cutlets were delicious. Do better on the customer service!
The best fish and calamari I’ve had in Australia was in Townsville. Great prices. Very friendly and fast service. Very nice place, no problem with parking.
It is . I finally found a good fish in Townsville. Fish and squid are great, I highly recommend it!
