About
Athelstone Takeaway is a casual Greek fish and chip shop serving the Athelstone community with a relaxed counter-service setup and dine-in seating. The menu leans into classic takeaway territory, with fish and chips as the signature, alongside burgers, yiros, and chicken dishes that round out the options nicely. The shop is family friendly, and the family meal deals are regularly flagged as solid value for the price.
The fish, particularly butterfish, is a regular highlight, with the batter delivering a satisfying crunch on the outside while staying soft through the middle. Chips follow the same standard, consistently cooked with good texture. Burgers are made fresh with quality ingredients, and the gravy gets a mention too. Staff are generally described as friendly and welcoming, making the atmosphere easy-going for both dine-in and takeaway visits.
Service is typically quick, though it can slow during busy periods, so phoning ahead for larger orders is a sensible move. The shop holds a solid four-plus star reputation across a reasonable number of reviews, which speaks well of its consistency. Free parking and wheelchair accessibility make it a practical stop for most visitors.
For anyone around Athelstone looking for a reliable local fish and chips option, this one earns its reputation. Check opening hours before heading in, particularly during the dinner rush.

Friendly staff great help, got chicken fillet burger nothing special but still good certainly happy eating it. Chicken salt is great chips crunchy certainly would come back.
Friendly staff. Good little takeaway for fish or chicken and chips, and more. Family meal deals are good value. Chips are always cooked perfect with just the right crunchy outside and soft inside. Thanks!
Poor service. I ordered takeaway by phone and found the fish was missing from my family’s meal. I tried calling back several times around 6:30pm to fix the mistake and get the fish I paid for but unfortunately there was no answer each time. It’s disappointing to have an incomplete order, and even more so to be unable to get in touch to resolve it.
I’m extremely disappointed with my recent experience. I placed an order and was told it would be a 10 minute wait. However, upon arriving I paid and then waited an additional 30 minutes with my 1 year old.
The most frustrating part was when a staff member finally asked what my order was only to find that it was lost. While they did apologise for the long wait it doesn’t excuse the lack of communication and poor handling of my order. The disorganised process wasted my time and made for a very frustrating experience.
The food is great it’s quick service and staff are kind
Young lady Isabella on the phone is very helpful, who i usually get assisted by, ensuring my order is correct and the way i like it. Atmosphere is very welcoming when i go to pick up my food, and the gravy is delicious.
Always have a fantastic experience with this place for takeaway food. Burgers are cooked fresh and use nice fresh ingredients. Prices are also really good for what you get.
Waited closer to 45 – 60 mins to get the food and lamb was overcooked in the Yiros.
