About
Bay Fish Shop is a well-known fish and chip shop on Jetty Road in Glenelg, drawing in both locals and visitors looking for a classic takeaway feed. The shop wraps its food in old-school grey paper, a small touch that regulars genuinely appreciate, especially for carrying meals down to the waterfront. Dine-in, takeaway, and delivery are all available, including no-contact delivery options, making it a flexible choice for different occasions.
The menu leans into the traditional. Beer-battered flake is a firm favourite, with regulars noting the batter comes out genuinely crunchy. The British fish special, served with crispy chips and mushy peas, is a generous and reasonably priced option worth knowing about. Dim sims, potato cakes, and calamari rings also feature, and the crumbed calamari in particular draws consistent praise. Sauces including tartare and aioli are available alongside. There is also a salad bar, small plates, and vegetarian options on offer, so the menu covers more ground than a standard fish and chip shop.
The venue is family-friendly with a kids’ menu available, and the casual, no-reservations setup suits the area’s tourist foot traffic. Free street parking nearby adds to the convenience. Service can be on the slower side during busy periods, so ordering ahead during the dinner rush is a sensible move.
For anyone visiting Glenelg and after a solid, unpretentious fish and chips experience, Bay Fish Shop is a straightforward choice. Check opening hours before heading in.

Great fish and chips, wrapped in the old school grey paper too, which works great for easy transport to the oceanside and a quick cleanup and throw away.
The place was not too busy, but the food didn’t come that quickly, so I would wonder how they would fare during very busy periods.
We had the British fish special, which came with a crispy battered butterfish, a mound of crispy chips & mushy peas. Generous serve at a reasonable price.
We had to have fish and chips when we came to Glenelg, and luckily we picked here. As it rained on the passersby of Jetty Rd, we sat in the window and had the crunchiest beer-battered flake. A lovely meal, and a lovely memory for our trip to Adelaide. The service was very friendly and warm too.
I love how the workers are very friendly and always ask if you had a nice time.
The food is great and has good favourable texture.
The design and has a cool colour and makes you feel welcoming when you enter.
You have a variety choice of any kind of drink you want and it doesn’t take long for your food to be served.
If you’re looking for a place to go have lunch? The Bay Fish Shop will be an amazing place to go.👌👍🤩🤯
Well it was Christmas Eve day and these guys slap ya with a 21% service charge for what? Is not even a public holiday. Service was friendly enough but that’s a massive price gouge. $10 fish and chips plus a bottle of water (plus the 21%). Fish was pretty minimal and it was edible enough. Chips were really good but I think we paid $10 for salt and then they added a small fish and some chips to that (plus that bs service fee). The bottle of water didn’t last long and I’ll always remember this is where I bought fish and chips straight out of the dead sea. If you’re lacking sodium in your diet, this is the place to be.
I wouldn’t bother coming on here if I wasn’t disappointed. 10 bucks for fish and chips is your deal on a big sign, then a service fee of $2.10 was put onto that. Why? Not sure. Ask the staff.
You want to know how fish and chips should be done, go to fast eddies in Normanville. That’s value for money, no bs service fee, good food and good service
What a gem of a shop.
We purchased the ‘Junior’ pack, 2 dim sims, 2 potato cakes (+Tartar and Aioli sauce) and drinks. An expected surprise was 4 delicious calamari rings, crumbed to perfection.
Staff were friendly.
Service was quick.
Price was cheap.
Food was hot, seasoned well and OMG delicious.
Do yourself a favour and visit this business
Grab your food then walk to the beach and enjoy every moment of it.
Especially visit the beach at sunset, it is amazing.
deeply disappointed, my local fish and chip shop have definitely given up on the quality of their food. this is meant to be a chips and gravy
Fish was rubbery and had a weird “off” taste to it.
Minimal amount of chips. They should probably warn you that there’s only gonna be a handful of chips…
