About
Flying Fish is a well-regarded café, restaurant, and kiosk in Port Elliot, drawing visitors from across the Fleurieu Peninsula for fresh seafood in a setting that genuinely earns the trip. With a solid four-plus star reputation built across well over a thousand reviews, it has become one of the more popular fish and chip destinations on South Australia’s southern coast.
The menu leans into quality seafood across breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Beer battered hake and crumbed flatfish are among the options regulars keep returning for, with the fish itself consistently praised for its flavour and satisfying batter. The broader menu stretches beyond the classics, and the dessert selection is worth saving room for, with the brownie drawing particular mentions. Drinks are well covered too, with beer, wine, cocktails, and coffee all available from the bar.
The restaurant offers full dine-in service with outdoor seating, and the kiosk handles a steady stream of takeaway orders throughout the day. Lunch service gets busy, especially on weekends, so a short queue is part of the experience at peak times. The venue is family friendly with a kids’ menu and high chairs, fully wheelchair accessible, and welcomes dogs in the outdoor areas. Vegan and vegetarian options are available, along with healthy choices and small plates.
Reservations are recommended for lunch and dinner at the restaurant. The kiosk runs daily from morning until mid-afternoon.

We visited this popular seaside fish and chip shop on the weekend. Even though we had to queue for a while during the lunchtime rush, it was absolutely worth the wait! We ordered the Classic Beer Battered Hake meal. The fish was the star: it was cooked perfectly, incredibly moist and juicy on the inside, with a light, crispy batter. The chips paired wonderfully. Highly recommended for a satisfying meal by the sea.
Fantastic food!!!! Very very flavoursome!!!!
Staff were fabulous!! Drinks and meals were prompt!
Highly recommended in going!!!
Great view overlooking the ocean!
Cycled here from Victor Harbor and thoroughly enjoyed the crumbed flatfish! My friends enjoyed the battered ones, which tasted great too. We also had a beautiful view of the ocean from our seats, which were a great plus point!
The seafood dishes we ordered were delicious. Definitely don’t skip dessert. The brownie was amazing. Great service too! We’ll be back.
Had a lovely catchup lunch at Flying Fish on Friday. Food didn’t fail to deliver….from the Kingfish Ceviche, 300g rump (yes I know you should have fish at a fish restaurant!) but it was beautifully cooked (rare for me) and finished off with Affogato. We could not have been happier and will definitely return. Must have been good as we were last to leave!!
Great night out, uninterrupted seaside views of picturesque Horseshoe Bay. Beautiful Fish Taco entree was particularly flavoursome, and great shared between the two of us. My Thai Noodle Salad Chicken, and my husband’s Barramundi Burger were delicious. The waitress was warm, professional and attentive. We were treated to dolphins enjoying the balmy evening quite close to the shore from our windows seat overlooking the beach with pontoon. A lovely way to celebrate 28 years of marriage. 💗💗
When ordered, we knew there was a 25min wait ✋️ but this turned into 90mins. Many people cancelled their orders as this was ridiculous.
Have to say when we eventually got our fish & chips, they were delicious 😋
The scenery was great, and although we waited 60 minutes for our food, I understood since they were very busy. We had a misunderstanding with our orders, but they kindly rectified it. The staff were very kind.
