About
Cygnet Takeaway is a casual fish and chip shop serving the small town of Cygnet in Tasmania’s Huon Valley, open across breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu covers a solid range of comfort food, from classic fish and chips through to burgers, pizza, ice cream, and coffee, making it a handy spot for visitors passing through as well as locals after a quick meal.
The cheeseburger draws plenty of attention, with regulars noting the patty is moist and well-seasoned. The meatlovers pizza is another highlight worth ordering. Chicken strips and chips snack packs are a popular lighter option, and the coffee has earned its share of compliments too. Potato cakes feature on the menu as well, rounding out the traditional takeaway spread.
The shop is takeaway only, with very limited seating on site. It is family friendly, with a kids’ menu available, and the venue is wheelchair accessible with free parking nearby. Tourists travelling through the Huon region frequently stop in, particularly when other options in town are closed on public holidays.
A well-rated takeaway for its size, Cygnet Takeaway offers a broad menu that suits most tastes. Check opening hours ahead of your visit, especially if you’re coming through on a weekend or holiday.

The food was good and tasty, I ordered the cheeseburger and the patty was moist and delicious. Service was friendly and efficient, coffee was great. Small dining area, only one table and a bench with chairs for 3 – 4 people. Good location with parking at the door.
We are very disappointed with our meal today. The amount of chips we received did not reflect the $10 we paid. And the potato cakes??? A “little” overcooked and soaked in oil. Whatever happened to the crinkle cut chips that was previously used always beautifully cooked??
Awful old lady who got mad at me for asking for gravy, slammed my food down and then yelled at me. She was clearly having a bad day and just took it out on me. Please don’t ever get your food here! Saw flies all on the heat area chips she was gonna serve me sitting there for ages in a box. And then yelled at me when I said I didn’t want my gravy on the chips. Awful business, awful service, awful food. Do not ever go here!!!! That lady should be fired or go to a therapist to help her bad attitude. It’s not my fault you are in a bad mood and the fact she looked 50+ is even more embarrassing. Just because your failed business makes you miserable doesn’t mean you can take it out on customers. Didn’t want to give her any of my money obviously so walked out.
I have been here a few times, food is reasonable however the older lady whom works behind the counter, is rather rude & I suggest not asking for anything to be cooked etc because she seems to become quite rude at simple request I walked out yesterday as it was the third time she has been rude. I have been served by other staff members & they have been lovely & polite.
I stopped by this takeaway in Cygnet recently and had a disappointing experience. When I told the older woman at the counter that I was still looking at the menu and needed a moment to decide, she abruptly said, “I’ll be back in 10 minutes” and walked off. It felt quite rude and unwelcoming. A little patience and friendliness would go a long way in customer service.
Bought the $10 chicken strips and chips snack pack
Cooked fresh, very tasty, great friendly service!
Happened across this place whilst touring Tassie (on a Public holiday and they were the only breakfast/lunch option we found open).
Ordered a cheeseburger with egg and it was delicious 🙌🏼 We are still talking about it. 😆
Great service and very fresh. 🤩
