About
Sadies Take Away & Cafe is a casual, cosy spot in Smithton, Tasmania, drawing visitors and locals alike with its honest food, friendly service, and prices that genuinely surprise people travelling from the mainland. Open from early morning well into the evening, the cafe covers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, making it a reliable stop at any point in the day.
The menu covers serious ground. The Benny Wrap is the standout at breakfast, a firm favourite with regulars and passing travellers. Burgers come properly loaded, and the fresh fish is consistently praised. Chips are generous, portions across the board lean large, and the pricing sits well below what most visitors expect to pay, particularly those used to mainland costs. Coffee and tea are taken seriously here too, which makes the early starts worthwhile.
Dine-in and takeaway are both available, and the space is set up for families, with a kids’ menu on offer and wheelchair access throughout. Free parking adds to the convenience. Staff come up again and again in what people say about the place, described as warm and genuinely attentive rather than just going through the motions.
For anyone exploring the Tarkine region or passing through north-west Tasmania, Sadies is well worth putting on the list. It holds a solid four-plus star reputation across a strong volume of reviews, which says plenty for a small-town takeaway. Phone ahead during busy periods to keep the wait short.

I think the food here satisfies my hunger quickly! 😋And it’s delicious! The service staff is also very friendly. They have a great variety of food! Great choice for take-out! There are many customers but they serve fast!💨
We got a takeaway meal here, and found out our order wasn’t right. Wonder why it cost so much, we had extra fish. The food was good.
We had breakfast there and then dinner on the way back from the Tarkine. The food was generous, well-prepared, and very reasonably priced. The Beni wrap is popular for breakfast and they make a proper burger with the lot. And they make great chips too! Coffee was great and hot. A must stop if you’re coming or going to the north west. Sadie’s opens at 5am and closes at 7pm or later.
We ordered fish, chips, salt and pepper squid and calamari. The chips came from a hot box but were great. Must’ve been freshly cooked. The fish was whiting and it was average at best. Salt and pepper squid was ok. But the calamari rings were definitely not calamari. Do not buy the calamari. It’s some sort of processed off the floor seafood rolled into a calamari ring.
We visited Sadies twice during a recent trip to Tassie and would not hesitate to visit again. Food and service was tops ! Great coffee, fresh fish, and the Benny Wrap is a must. Everything we ordered we could not fault. 11/10 !!
We were travelling around tassie from the mainland and came across this magnificent little takeaway for lunch … $10 ea for a burger with the lot (bacon, egg, beetroot, onion, lettuce & cheese ) is unheard of on the mainland… they were amazing 👏 well done to you … keep feeding people at a price everywhere should be charging…
Even was allowed to sit in the Cafe if we had bought takeaway 😍
Credit to the cooks and the service sadly we won’t be back but I bet in our lifetime we will never see prices like that again 😢
I would give them 10 stars if I could to. Excellent service and food.
Have been traveling around Tassie for the past week or so, and have been feed up paying over the top prices for meals. What a pleasant surprise to find Sadies via a Google search. Food was great and WAY cheaper than any place we’ve eaten so far. Thanks Sadie
