About
Nat’s Rustic Beach Feed has built a well-regarded reputation among visitors and locals in Cowes, Philip Island’s main township, as a fish and chip shop that takes its food seriously. The batter is made fresh on site, and it shows. Regulars and day-trippers alike return for flake that is tender inside with a thick, crunchy coating that avoids the greasy heaviness that lets many shops down. Potato cakes get a strong mention too, with portions described as generous across the board.
The menu goes beyond the standard takeaway fare, with vegetarian options and small plates sitting alongside the classic fish and chips lineup. Families are well catered for with a dedicated kids’ menu, and the outdoor seating makes it a comfortable spot for a sit-down meal. Dine-in and takeaway are both available, open for lunch and dinner.
With over 300 reviews and a solid four-plus star rating, this Cowes shop draws visitors from across Phillip Island and beyond, many of whom rank it among the best fish and chips they have tried anywhere in Australia. Wait times can stretch when it gets busy, and that seems to be accepted without complaint. The kitchen is clearly prioritising quality over speed, which the food reflects.
Phone ahead during peak periods or plan for a short wait at the counter. Worth the trip if you are exploring the island.

One of the best and freshest fish i have had in Australia. Also you can see they freshly make their batter. Best option!
Excellent food for an excellent price!
The fish was juicy, freshly buttered and baked to a perfect crisp! Same as the potato cake with generous portions and great service –> a round up experience.
You can really taste the heart they put into it 🙂
Recommended by my guide to get fish and chips from this store. Big portion for family of 4. Generous serving of chips. Flakes are fresh and tender inside.
Waiting time is long to get our food as they took time to make sure food is well cooked. Well done chef.
Go for the Grilled Fish. Crispest Potato Cakes from freshly made batter.
Hands down the best fish and chips we have ever had! Worth the wait when they’re busy! Not oily and great portion size!
Eating at this fish & chip shop was the highlight of our Phillip Island trip and will be a must visit everytime we visit. The flake was cooked to perfection with the most crunchy thick batter we have ever tasted and 10/10 potato cake, chips and scallops and no oily taste after!!! Me and my family have eaten at alot of fish/chips overtime but this was hands down up there in the best and we honestly can’t stop talking about it!!!
The lady running the store is also amazing at multitasking and ran the whole store on her own today and I hope she knows her hard work and dedication to customers does not go unnoticed. Thank you! 5 STARS
Best fish and chips we’ve had in Australia, we’ve been travelling from Cairns down the coast and this is the best by far. Oil was fresh when opening on Friday afternoon, the batter was crisp, no grease. We had fish bites and fish and chips. The fish was chunky and white. Absolutely delicious. Not much seating but a few short steps down to the beach and pier to enjoy the view.
Great food, reasonably priced. Nat is fun! 1 minite from the beach. Flake was lovely and batter super crispy, one chips and 2 fish was plenty for 2 adults.
