Families are well catered for, with a kids’ menu and seating, and the venue is wheelchair accessible with free parking nearby. Beer, coffee, and alcohol are also on offer, making it a relaxed spot for a sit-down meal rather than just a quick takeaway run.
Service is brisk, which suits the lunchtime crowd and those after a fast dinner. My foodie friend told me this was the best fish & chip in Elwood. The only reason it has a low Google review is because the owner doesn’t like to talk to people.
I didn’t find the fish & chip exceptionally good. However, it was quick to takeaway. It was delicious. There was nothing particularly bad either.
I had the best fish and chips and scallops tonight ! It was made with love and care . The oil was clean … non greasy … healthy . The shape of the chips was so good with lots of actual potato in them ! Heads and Tails I recommend highly . I am fussy about food !
Went in on a public holiday and got a small servings of chips which are pictured. 8.50 is the normal price, 9.97 after the 15 per cent surcharge. My girlfriend had eaten about 3 -4 chips before this picture was taken but 10 dollars for that is taking the piss. Talk about stingy and not generous.
Absolutely delicious! We ordered the Rockling batted fish, calamari, prawns and chips. Everything was cooked perfectly! The fish was both crunchy and melt in your mouth, the chips were crunchy and the calamari was cooked to perfection. Staff were lovely and the service was quick. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back!
I have never been more insulted and disrespected. The man who runs the business tried to hustle me. I gave him a $100 note is that is all I had, for a $28 fish and chip pack and a sparkling water, he gave me a $20 note back. I questioned him about it and he said he made a mistake, he then refused to cook for me. I’m a local and we’ll be warning everyone away from this disgusting excuse for a business.
Today it is the fourth day of the second Ashes Test test of 2025/26 series. Pink ball test. The Gabba. England are 9-down trying to set a competitive target for Australia’s second innings chase. My fish and chips order is ready so I walk the 90 metres down the road to this place, hoping to watch Michael Neser take the final wicket when I get to Heads & Tails and await my food. I walk in and they have on the TV (Foxtel) a replay of an uninteresting Brisbane Lions v Essendon game from when Joe Daniher still played for Brisbane. I said to the cashier that The Ashes are on mate. He said oh is there? I forgot to say thanks because I was surprised that this was the atmosphere they had elected to project. I collect my food immediately and head off. But the thoughts kept racing: an Essendon game!? In Elwood?! Madness. It at least looked like an establishment that would show old Carlton games, maybe some St Kilda games given our geographical proximity to that football club, but to not even have the cricket on for the second Ashes Test (with the series in the balance) was truly perplexing. Anyway, I get home and the food is amazing. Battered flake the length of a small child’s forearm. Chips better than the pub. Potato cakes that didn’t look like they would taste as delicious as they did; a flipper if you will. As I took my fifth bite of my succulent, tender battered flake in the comfort of my loungeroom Michael Neser took his fifth wicket of the match and ended England’s dismally underwhelming attempt at setting a fourth innings target for us. After finishing the meal I almost called up to get some more potato cakes. 5/5 would go again but please be aware that live sport needs to take precedence over a replay of an AFL game from at least 4 years ago. See you next Sunday.
Wish I could give this place zero stars. Extortionately expensive and the grey haired man, presumably the owner, is a nasty piece of work. When I asked how much a piece of fish was he said ‘do u want it or not, I’m busy’ after not already doing the bare minimum when serving me. When I said ‘great service’ sarcastically because I couldn’t believe his rudeness, he then told me to get out. Am a local and will be telling everyone to avoid this place like the plague!
Rude and greedy owners. Ordered and was then told there was a 15% surcharge. It’s a husband and wife that work here. They’re not paying any staff. It’s just greed that they take advantage of people. Won’t be going back
