We were visiting RSPCA Peninsula and decided to make a detour to Tyabb Antiques. Hunger pangs at midday made us walk to the nearest food source ie the local Tyabb Fish & Chips as it has a small dine-in area. The batter is crisp yet light. Chips cooked to perfection with chicken salt! Great lunch outcome!
I found this shop accidentally whilst going to Hastings.
The food was delicious and not that expensive.
I ordered a lunch pack, which included a Flake, Dim Sim, 1 potato cake, and chips and it cost only $8:50.
Long service time waited about 40 minutes when there’s only been a hand full of of customers walk in. While we were waiting for our food the two young girls are eating and drinking. When the owner is working his behind off in the back trying his best. Also ended up giving other people our burgers. Maximum effort from the owner poor effort by the youngest worker.
Tried the fish and chips pack and an additional barramundi. The fish seemed reasonably fresh, but it seems like the fryer was not hot enough, and the batter on the barramundi was too thick unfortunately, which was not great

Been a while since ive been to Flatties, looks like change of ownership has happened??? Just watched the young person cooking constantly touch their hair face then handle food then in the fryer it goes, clothes seems to be the hand washing tool for the night, supply your cooks with aprons and some basic handwashing skills. So disgusting This was after watching another have a munch on some food behind the counter leaning over customers orders being packed up while doing so yum yum someone’s crumbs in my food tonight 🤮 🤮 🤮 🤮 🤮.
Chips were left under a paper bag in a row to go cold while the rest of the food was cooked. Burger was wrong and had to be re cooked but was so cold I suspect they scraped off what they should not have put in and put the original patty in a new bun. Two of the same fish very different sizes with soggy batter. Staff couldn’t give a shit. Will not be going back. Shame as the original Flatties was a legacy 😔. All this and only 3 people in the shop 🙄
