About
Alexandria Seafoods is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in Alexandria, New South Wales, drawing a loyal crowd of families, university students, and anyone after a solid feed at a reasonable price. With a strong reputation built across hundreds of visits, the shop has earned its place as one of the better-rated seafood spots in the inner south of Sydney.
The menu leans into both fried and grilled options, giving it broader appeal than a straight takeaway counter. Battered fish is the signature, praised for its crisp coating and fresh, flaky flesh that doesn’t come out greasy or over-seasoned. The grilled barramundi burger is another highlight, and the kitchen also puts out a baked barra with haloumi and tomato that delivers solid results. Beyond those, the menu covers a seafood platter, skewers, salmon in chilli, and classic fish and chips. Portions run generous, and regulars note the value is hard to beat in the area.
The shop operates for lunch and dinner with dine-in seating and takeaway available. Staff are known for being genuinely friendly, and the old-school style of the place, a small storefront with a focused menu, adds to its charm. It’s family-friendly, with a kids’ menu on offer alongside vegetarian and healthier grilled options. Card and mobile payments are accepted. Occasional inconsistency with fish species has been flagged, so if you have a preference, ask when ordering.
Phone ahead during the dinner rush to avoid a wait.

Used to lived in St.Peters and came here time to time for oysters. Everything was changed after 12 years and no more Mr.Oyster grand pa but still their oysters are so good….. I hope I can have their oyster every year 🙂
Thank you for good fresh seafood.
Extremely good. Portions are big and fresh. We really enjoyed every single item we had. Very friendly staff. Greetings from Texas.
I had heard many good-to-great things about this place. The seafood shop is reliably, one of old. A telephone line to take preorders directly and a small tuckshop storefront to sling fried and grilled seafood, thick cut chips radioactively coloured from OTT chicken salt (the best kind) and Greek salad.
In Sydney, the fish and chip shop is historically run by Greek families, an old Chinese couple or beach living Aussies. Alexandria Seafood however owes its delicious array of open water proteins to its Kiwi (NZ) inheritance and Pacific Islander leanings. Even with a 25 min added travel time, the batter was fluffy and crispy while not losing its shape and falling off the fish/calamari. The grilled selection was extremely well seasoned and marinated. A bit of acidity, not just from the lemon wedges but also from the use of fresh herbs and aromatics. Nothing is too overpowering either, redacting from the smokiness from the char on the grilled octopus, the sweetness of the prawn flesh or the buttery bite of the ling fillets.
It’s priced insanely democratically. But that’s often a privilege that is earned and not given within Sydney’s dining out diaspora. Simple food done well, representing some of the best produce that’s abundant enough to feed many.
Atmosphere: N/A as it’s mainly takeaway but the team were great !
Solid food and great service! Should have asked for a bit of extra chicken salt on the chips but that’s just a personal preference. Will come again
🔥 You’ll leave full, happy — and probably needing to loosen the belt 😂
Let’s begin, We went to Alexandria Seafood and I’ve got to say, everything was next-level delicious.
I went with the grilled/baked dory after the staff recommended it — and I’m so glad I listened. Perfectly cooked, super tasty, really filling, and that Greek salad with a twist (potato!) just took it to another level.
The boys loved their meals too — crispy chips, juicy prawn cutlets, tender calamari, and the marinated BBQ octopus was a standout: full of flavour, soft not chewy, and cooked perfectly.
And the portions? Insane value for money. The boys couldn’t even finish and had to take some home.
The service was outstanding — friendly, chilled, and we were laughing like we’d known them for years.
The place is clean, tidy, and has that cool 80s/90s vibe. We ate in, but there’s plenty of seating outside too.
Hands down, one of the top fish & chips spots around. Whether you’re solo, with your partner, mates or the whole family — just go, you won’t regret it.
Funny warning: if you wear skinny jeans here, you better Uber home — because you’re not bending again today. 😂😝
I ordered 2 peices of Orange Ruffie. It was another fish which was a little dry , had been frozen and different texture than the fish we ordered.
Orange Ruffie is a very tender fish and very moist and natural flakes.
I noticed in the window that they had deep sea flathead. It was 100% not flathead. Different shape and different texture pattern in the flesh.
Old school style fish and chips. Super fresh and flaky fish, not too oily or over seasoned. Consistently good and reasonable prices. A rare gem!
Best food! The owner Tass is great and has even made us Greek marinated octopus on request. – we grilled it on our bbq. Potentially the best fish and chips we have ever had!
