About
The Dolphin Takeaway is a well-regarded fish and chip shop serving the Austral community in south-west New South Wales, with a solid four-plus star reputation built on generous portions and genuinely friendly service. The menu stretches well beyond the fryer, covering classic fish and chips alongside chicken drums, devils wings, burgers, freshly made sandwiches and rolls. The chicken drums and devils wings have earned a devoted following, regularly drawing people back as favourites in their own right.
Owner Wayne and the team are regularly noted for their polite, helpful approach, and the shop has a reputation for flexibility. Regulars report that if something isn’t immediately on the menu, staff are happy to accommodate the request. Servings are described as plentiful, and prices are considered very reasonable for the quality on offer.
The Dolphin Takeaway is family-friendly and wheelchair accessible, making it a comfortable stop for a wide range of visitors. Takeaway is the focus here, and the shop does a brisk trade at lunchtime, so arriving earlier or later in the day makes for a smoother experience. A kids’ menu is available, which adds to its appeal for families passing through or living in the Austral area.

Came in for a quick pit stop from a busy day. Didn’t really know what to expect, but was quickly impressed.
Great menu selection, from burgers to seafood to freshly made sandwiches, rolls and chicken.
Value is great and the service was really friendly and food was served up quickly and fresh.
Looking forward to our next visit, definitely our local takeaway shop from here in out.
A handy takeaway place. Food is good and the prices are about average. Service is friendly too. Worth a try. If they don’t have what your after, just ask them. They’re happy to make you what you want.
I purchased a medium-sized serving of hot chips for my teenagers to share, which cost $9.50. It’s surprising how chips, once one of the most affordable options at takeaway shops, are now pricier than a beef burger. I understand that prices have risen and that customers often bear the impact. However, it’s essential that customers receive value for what they pay! As someone new to the area, I had ordered medium chips from this shop before without any issues. So, where is the chips? I’m still looking for it! Your customers are willing to pay the price, but only if you’re taking care of them. I won’t be returning! I’d rather drive an extra five minutes to Carnes Hill for hot chips instead. It’s absurd to feel like we’re being taken advantage of. People work hard for their money, and it seems like we’re just giving it away for nothing at this point.
I found this shop last year. The food is fantastic servings plentiful and the staff are very friendly. I highly recommend this to everyone who likes takeaway food. Don’t go at lunchtime it’s full then.
Deadset one of if not the best fresh takeaway store I’ve ever ate at like the chicken drums and devils wings are 10/10 better then kfc easily and the burgers are mad too
Great food fantastic prices and the staff and Wayne so polite and helpful not many takeaways like this left support your local
Always get our fish n chips here.
Food is always good, clean place. The owner and workers always very polite and friendly, they know the locals.
I always know we will get quality food and service here. Well done
Andre.
The place itself was fine, but the service was disappointing. We ordered two coffees, yet people who arrived after us received theirs before us. We felt completely ignored. We had stopped in for a quick morning coffee, but the way we were treated ended up spoiling our morning.
