About
Wharf Bar & Restaurant is one of Ballina’s most popular dining spots, sitting alongside the river and drawing a steady crowd for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day of the week. With well over two thousand reviews and a solid four-plus star reputation, it has built genuine goodwill among locals and visitors alike.
The menu leans into fresh, high-quality seafood, with grilled fish and prawns among the dishes regulars return for. The kitchen is known for well-prepared plates that are full of flavour without being overdone. Pricing is considered very reasonable for the quality on offer, and the service strikes a comfortable balance, attentive and warm without hovering. A kids’ menu makes it a practical choice for families, and the venue can accommodate groups with reservations accepted across all meal periods.
Beyond the food, Wharf Bar offers a full bar with beer, wine, cocktails, and spirits, plus happy-hour deals and live music on selected nights. Great coffee and dessert options round out the experience. Dine-in seating includes outdoor areas with river views, and takeaway and kerbside pickup are available for those who prefer to eat elsewhere. The venue is fully wheelchair accessible throughout.
During peak periods, such as long weekends and school holidays, the place fills quickly. Booking ahead is a smart move, especially for dinner. Phone ahead or reserve online to avoid missing out.

We walked past Wharf Bar on Sunday afternoon when we first arrived in Ballina. The place was absolutely buzzing, not surprising given it was the Easter long weekend, so we decided to come back another night as there was no space for us and our five-month-old baby.
Fast forward to tonight, and we finally got to try it out. It was still busy, which is always a good sign, and while the food took a little longer than expected to arrive, that is totally understandable with the crowd. When you have a bub who is getting tired and ready for bed, a few extra minutes can feel like forever, but honestly, it was well worth the wait.
We ordered two dishes from their Tuesday specials, the mussels and the fish and chips, and both were absolutely spot on. The mussels were fresh and flavourful with a generous portion of bread to soak up the broth, and the fish and chips were solid. The portion sizes were generous, especially considering the price. Great value for money.
The atmosphere was laid-back and welcoming, with stunning views over the water and a relaxed vibe that made it easy to unwind, even with a baby in tow. The staff were friendly and accommodating, especially the maître d’, who really went out of his way to give us a nice seat with a view of the sunset.
Overall, we really enjoyed our night out at Wharf Bar. It is a great spot for couples, families, or anyone looking to enjoy a solid meal with a beautiful view and good service. We will definitely be back for a drink next time we’re in town!
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Ballina Wharf, and it was an absolute delight! The ambiance was stunning, with breathtaking views of the river that made the experience even more special. The food was delicious, and the service was top-notch. I highly recommend trying their seafood platter and wood-fired pizza. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, perfect for a night out with friends. Overall, I give Ballina Wharf 5 stars – it’s a must-visit spot in Ballina!
A fantastic restaurant with fresh, high-quality ingredients and beautifully prepared dishes. The seafood was perfectly cooked and full of flavour, especially the grilled fish and prawns. Service was warm, attentive, and efficient, making the whole experience very enjoyable. The atmosphere was relaxed yet refined, ideal for both family dinners and special occasions. Highly recommended for anyone who loves great seafood.
Had a.great meal with very prompt and friendly service..I had the seafood mixed grill. Really happy with how fresh and tasty it was. My kids shared a woodfired Diavola pizza. They really enjoyed it. We had a great view from our table as well.
Only complaint… the size of the beer glass for the price. Needs to be bigger as it was about 250ml
Great food in a superb location. Service was quick without being hurried. Staff were attentive without being in your face. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Well worth a visit.
Definitely be back to this place. Amazing friendly staff. Delicious meals and awesome hot chocolate
Decided to try somewhere different for lunch and had a food voucher for the Wharf Bar and Restaurant. It was the most beautiful setting, sun shining and clear with the water off the wharf high and blue and green, perfect for a great lunch with my wife! The service was great, the staff very friendly and the food was delicious. We started with a wood fire bread which was filling for 2, but very soft and fluffy. My wife had the prawn caesar salad which she thoroughly enjoyed and I had the beef burger which was great. Recommend to anyone who likes to chill, eat good food and loves a view of the river.
One of our favorite restaurants in Ballina. It wins on a combination of fronts: the location instills happiness – on a fine day in particular, being right on the river, especially as the sun is dipping, is life reaffirming. The staff here have a uniquely happy, relaxed and helpful approach. They are always a pleasure to interact with. The menu will satisfy everyone – great seafood, including the best fish and chips in Ballina, alongside wood fired pizza and fresh veggie bowls. With open air but undercover tables, you feel like you are on holiday even when you’re not.
