About
Riggsy’s Takeaway has built a strong reputation in Barrack Heights for serving some of the best fish and chips on the New South Wales South Coast. With well over four and a half stars from a solid number of reviews, the shop draws a loyal crowd of locals and passing visitors alike, many of whom make a point of stopping in whenever they’re in the area.
The fish and chips are the clear drawcard, and regulars rave about the crispy, well-executed batter and generously portioned serves. Chips come seasoned with chicken salt by default, though staff will ask your preference. Beyond the signature fish and chips, the menu features prawn cutlets, calamari rings, and fish cocktails, all of which get a regular mention for freshness and flavour. Portions are described as generous and the value for money is a consistent highlight.
Service is quick and the staff are known for being genuinely friendly and helpful, which goes a long way when the dinner rush hits. The shop is family-friendly and there is free parking on site. For those happy to eat al fresco, a park with picnic tables sits just across the road and makes for a relaxed spot to enjoy a takeaway meal.
It is worth noting that experiences can vary, with some visitors reporting the occasional inconsistency in chip quality. That said, the highs here are genuinely high, and plenty of recent visits have left people very happy. Phone ahead during busy periods to avoid a wait.

This take-away store is more than just any ordinary take-away store. They serve arguably the best fish and chips in town on a burger and in a battered form. Their prawn cutlets and seafood stick are also excellent and their calamari rings are the biggest I’ve seen which following consumption put me into a seafood coma 😜 and made me develop an addiction for more fish and chips. What is better is that they backed up with good quality chips too! I would highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a good quality fish and chips meal. The value for money is also excellent. Hands down the best fish n chips we’ve ever had! Everything we ordered tasted so fresh with the perfect amount of crunchy batter. Staff was also so friendly 🙂 definitely coming back again
Fish and Chips were yum – batter was good, chips seasoned with Chicken salt (they ask your preference).
Also got a calamari ring (quite thick, but good if you’re into that). Also got a prawn cutlet which was yum, and the server gave me 2 lemon wedges without me even asking – perfect!
Would definitely go back!
Generous portions, good value and lovely staff. Enjoyed our takeaway at the picnic table in the park across the road. Will return!
Chips were soggy, undercooked.
Steak Sandwich was a hamburger bun, not bread.
Food was average.
I’ve been here a few times previously with it much better.
They were busy and seem flustered.
We ordered among other things, 3 Seafood Sticks, and got 2.
The Fish Cocktails I got 4 but the size of them was about 1.5, as they were more “tails” – thin about 1.5 inches long.
They apologised for taking long to get our lunch.
Disappointing experience really.
Best bloody fish and chips we have had in a while. Riggsy is a ledge and we will definitely be stopping in whenever we pass through ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Food portions are very generous with very appreciated staff assistance regarding number of fish cocktails ordered possibly being excessive for two people!! Tasty and crisp batter and no unpleasant fat aftertaste. May not be the least expensive but definitely worth the price!!
YUM food. Really nice people and happy to help. They had a super busy day so were out of a few things but they tried to offer anything else they could. I will definitely be back for some yummy fish and chips.
