About
Newton Takeaway brings something a little different to the Beresfield fish and chip scene. Alongside the classic takeaway staples, the shop has built a strong following for its banh mi rolls and pork and gravy rolls, menu items that keep regulars coming back well beyond the usual Friday night fish-and-chip run. The crackling pork banh mi is a particular highlight, loaded with generous meat, fresh vegetables, and bread that manages to be crunchy on the outside without being tough.
The chips alone are worth talking about. Portions are genuinely large, hot, and golden, and the shop has earned a reputation in the Beresfield and Woodberry area for value that’s hard to beat. A small serve regularly feeds more than one person, and that kind of consistency across busy lunch and dinner periods speaks for itself.
Dine-in and takeaway are both available, and the space is clean and casual, making it a comfortable option for families. Staff are noted for being friendly and welcoming, which adds to the relaxed atmosphere. Delivery is also offered for those who prefer to eat at home.
Newton Takeaway holds a strong reputation among locals in Beresfield, with well over four and a half stars earned across a solid number of reviews. For anyone in the area after a reliable fish and chip shop that also delivers on something a bit more adventurous, this one is well worth checking out. Phone ahead during the dinner rush to avoid a wait.

Very friendly and attentive staff. My fish and chips was very fresh and chunky. However, the batter was too thick and sloppy. According to my friends, their bah mi was perfect. The large drumsticks were quite homemade-style and tasted juicy.
MUST TRY!
Best Vietnamese roll I’ve ever had! Fresh ingredients and soo tasty!
All the takeaway options looked great, the staff were lovely too.
Hectic. $11 crackling pork banh mi. Bread was really enjoyable, crunchy but soft inside and didn’t cut up the mouth. Big servings of chips.
The food was overcooked, burnt, dry, smothered in chicken salt at no request. Crumbs fallen off squid rings, Pluto pup to hard to bite, nuggets sounding like rocks when dropped on table top. Unacceptable. First time & last time ordering from here.
Great banh mi.
The roast pork was very good, generous meat serve and freshly cooked and fresh bread and veggies.
Friendly staff too.
Been going to the one next door within a few years and both have different style but great to try.
The best chippys in bero/Woodberry, we had no food at home a scraped up $5 for their small chips and it fild the whole family and was still hot when I got home(p.s I walk from bere to Woodberry) the chips had the right amount of chicken salt and the chips tastes like they were cooked in clean oil.
Anyway I give 5/5 Because the shops clean, the food delish, the workers greet you with nothing but happy and kindness and its very cheap especially in this economy!
Ordered a small chips just for myself from here and the portion size is incredible. It could easily feed 2-3 people and the quality of the chips were perfect. Hot, crispy and golden.
I track Banh Mi’s down everywhere even many many months through Vietnam on many occasions and will confidently say this is the best value for money Banh Mi in Australia @$11.50.
Finally a proper, crunchy vietnamese roll with perfect dressing for the salad and amazing pork with crackling.
My go to when travelling through for sure.
