About
Aish’s Seafood and Takeaway is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in Berkeley, New South Wales, drawing a steady crowd for both lunch and dinner. With well over 400 reviews and a solid reputation built over many visits, it has become a familiar stop for locals and anyone passing through the area in search of a reliable, affordable feed.
The fisherman’s basket is the signature here, regularly praised for its generous portions and fresh ingredients. Crumbed fish is another firm favourite, and the chips are consistently described as tasty and well-cooked. Portions run on the larger side, and prices are notably affordable, which helps explain the regular foot traffic. The food moves quickly through the kitchen, keeping ingredients fresh, though during busy periods the wait can stretch a little longer than usual.
Aish’s is a takeaway operation, so there is no formal dining room, but the spot is family friendly and the car park is wheelchair accessible with free parking available. It is a practical, no-fuss setup that suits families picking up dinner on the way home just as well as it suits a weekday lunch stop.
For anyone in Berkeley or the broader Illawarra area hunting for fish and chips that deliver on freshness and value, Aish’s Seafood and Takeaway is worth keeping on the list. Phone ahead during the dinner rush to save yourself a wait.

I ordered 14 fish cocktails and a medium chips, my partner goes and gets it what he came back with is utterly disgusting and tastes like chicken looks like chicken and it does not taste like fish at all. On top of this abomination there was single wrapped piece of fish that I DID NOT ORDER! I don’t know if that was to compensate for the overly cooked stiff chips and the ‘chicken’ cocktails or what but I’m definitely sure I will not be going back there again for the!!!
Do not trust this shop they will take your money and give you somthing completely different and disgusting to what you think. You’re paying for.
First time purchase. Crumbed flake over cooked.. dry dry dry & no taste. crumbing on fish dry & over cooked . Chips & seafood sticks were beautiful but the fish is awful…cant eat it. Disappointed.
It is an okay fish and chips place, the food is in demand, so everything is quite fresh. Not a place to sit, but a few amazing wildlife encounters, as pelicans and seagulls live there.
First visit. Had lunch there during the week.
We ordered a fisherman’s basket and a fish burger. Both were good but preference was for the fish burger. Prices wee very reasonable and with very generous portions too. It was busy but service was pretty quick.
Lovely location by the lakeside but no seating. We drove to nearby and ate lunch in the car.
Extremely disappointed. Ordered what was meant to be grilled fish but turned out to be floured seasoned, oily fish. With someone that is celiac and can not eat it got sick. I don’t recommend this place due to the fact that when you ring up and don’t care and blame the customer for not being specific. It was supposed to be grilled not drowned in oil or floured. I told them they had to be careful, so won’t be back again. Waste of $8. Never again. Horrible service didn’t even offer a refund or anything.
Very disappointing experience.
My husband has been a regular customer here, spending quite a bit on fresh seafood. We previously received a batch of oysters that were off, but we let that go.
More recently, he purchased fresh blue swimmer crabs which gave off a terrible smell when cooked the entire house reeked. I called the store, provided proof of purchase, and was told to bring them in. We froze the crabs but within a few days the smell from the freezer was unbearable, so we had to dispose of them.
We live in Shellharbour, so visiting the store isn’t convenient. When we finally made the trip today, we were met with attitude and rudeness. I completely understand that proof is required, but we wouldn’t drive all the way from Shellharbour to Berkeley over $40 just to make something up.
The man serving us spoke to a woman who appeared to be the manager, and she instantly said “No, no chance” — very abruptly and with no manners or sense of customer service. The man wasn’t any better — rude and dismissive.
If they had shown even a little bit of understanding or kindness, this could’ve been resolved differently. Unfortunately, it’s clear they don’t care about their customers.
We won’t be returning. Very poor customer service.
I’ve been a regular here (fourth visit) and will always yearn for more. The fisherman’s basket and crumbed fish were absolutely yummy!! The portion was generous and pricing was super affordable.
Stopped by for fish and chips and was really happy with the experience. The fish was fresh, the chips were tasty, and everything was cooked well. The wait time wasn’t long, which was a bonus, and the prices are very affordable. Love supporting a local business and I’ll definitely be coming back again. 😊
