About
Karuah Seafood and Thai brings a welcome combination of classic fish and chips and Thai cuisine to the small town of Karuah in New South Wales. It’s the kind of stop that draws both locals and travellers passing through on their way back toward Sydney, and the generous serves keep people coming back. Portions are notably substantial, with fish described as genuinely meaty rather than wrapped in excess batter, and the crumbed snapper has earned a solid following among regulars.
The menu covers seafood in traditional and Thai styles, with fish burgers among the popular choices. Dine-in seating includes outdoor options, making it suited to groups, families, and solo visitors alike. Takeaway and delivery are also available, and the shop runs lunch and dinner service. A kids’ menu adds to the family-friendly appeal, and the venue is wheelchair accessible with free on-site and street parking.
The owners are known for running a friendly, welcoming operation, and the atmosphere stays relaxed and casual without feeling rushed. The fish and chip shop side of things holds a well-rated reputation across a good number of reviews, a solid result for a regional New South Wales venue of this style. Card and mobile payments are accepted.
For anyone travelling through the Hunter region or spending time in Karuah, this is a convenient and satisfying place to pull in for a meal. Check opening hours before visiting, particularly outside peak seasons.

Amazingly this business seems to have survived the pandemic unscathed. Good food and good friendly service. Plenty of parking along side the main street. Would happily go again.
Between two we shared a crumbed Snapper and a crumbed NZ Hoki with a medium chips. All came out in the one container, which was thoughtful. A wooden fork would have made the eating a little easier. The generous portions of fish were cooked to perfection and the chips excellent. The table we first sat at was wet and could have been so for a while as it had not been raining. There were no serviettes on the table nor in the pack, however, the serviette dispenser was brought out after a short while.
The worst fish taco ever, It started out cold so he put it in the microwave it is the size of a kebab not a taco and the fish had no flavour at all. I even tried just eating the fish alone still not one bit of flavour. He was quite rude and opinionated when i asked for chicken he said it’s terrible that people put chicken salt on fish. all in all i will never go back
Located in a peaceful, small town, this spot is a great place to stop on your way back to Sydney. The fish burgers are made with real fish, though they could benefit from grilled options and a sourdough bread instead of a sweet bun. There’s outdoor seating available, but keep in mind there are no bathroom facilities. Overall, it’s a solid takeaway shop. General portions of fish and chips.
Great fish and chips. Salad was in box with fish, the dressing dripped through on to hubby’s cloths. Lol. But it all tasted fabulous
The owners of this place are great. Very friendly and respectful. The food was lovely and tasty. I would highly recommend this place to all who love seafood
Wow the meal was great and huge. Nice fat fish too not all batter. We were here for a weekend and I would come just for the food when passing. This was the meal for 2
Said they would yell out our number… Didn’t….. Got cold chips. Fish was good.
