About
Bottom of the Harbour Seafoods has been serving fish and chips in Mosman since 1989, making it one of the longer-running seafood shops on Sydney’s Lower North Shore. The signature dish is battered fish and chips, and the shop is known for sourcing fresh, local, sustainable seafood. Potato scallops and octopus salad also appear regularly on the menu alongside the usual favourites.
The shop offers dine-in, takeaway, and delivery, with outdoor seating available for those who want to eat al fresco. It is family-friendly with a kids’ menu and high chairs on hand. Halal options and vegetarian choices are available, broadening the appeal for a range of diners. Dogs are welcome too, making it a practical stop for those out and about with a pet.
Service is generally quick, which is handy given the shop draws solid crowds, particularly on weekends and public holidays. Portions are generous, with regulars noting the battered fish as flaky and not overly greasy, and the chips as well fried. Feedback on overall quality is mixed across a large number of visits, so experiences can vary. The shop is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with both counter and table service available.

Quick service even for a super busy easter weekend! The fish was flaky, not too greasy and the chips were well fried. Potato scallop was good and the octopus salad was tender and flavourful.
Not cheap but quality is good and it’s nice to sit and eat at the beach,
Visited this fish and chips spot near Balmoral Beach, drawn by the promise of a classic seaside meal. The location itself is beautiful, with stunning views of the beach and a casual, relaxed atmosphere perfect for a laid-back dining experience.
The menu predominantly features fish and chips, which is exactly what you would expect and hope for in such a location. Additionally, they offer a variety of seafood dishes, including a seafood basket, which I decided to try.
Unfortunately, my experience with the seafood basket was underwhelming. The basket included an assortment of seafood items like prawns, calamari, and fish pieces. However, the taste was very average and lacked the vibrant flavors one would expect from fresh seafood. The batter on the seafood was quite bland, and there was a noticeable lack of seasoning. Each bite felt like it was missing something – perhaps a touch of lemon, some herbs, or even just a bit more salt and pepper to elevate the flavors.
The calamari rings, which should be tender and slightly chewy, were overcooked and rubbery. The prawns, usually a highlight in any seafood dish, were similarly disappointing, lacking the natural sweetness and succulence that makes them so enjoyable. The fish pieces, the star of the basket, were also quite bland and didn’t have the crispy, golden exterior that makes fish and chips so satisfying.
The chips themselves were decent, though not exceptional. They were cooked to a nice crispiness but didn’t stand out as particularly special or memorable. A good fish and chips experience relies heavily on both the fish and the chips being top-notch, and this spot seemed to miss the mark on both counts.
Overall, while the location near Balmoral Beach is undeniably picturesque and perfect for a casual meal, the food left much to be desired. The seafood basket, in particular, was average at best and lacked the flavor and excitement I was hoping for. There is potential for this place to shine, but a bit more attention to seasoning and cooking techniques would go a long way in improving the dining experience. For now, I would recommend exploring other dining options in the area if you are looking for a more flavorful and satisfying seafood meal.
Good portion of battered fish and chips for $18.
I was charged additional for condiments- $2.00 for ketchup and $2.20 for tartare sauce plus a Coke. All up $25.30.
Sat down across the street taking in the majestic beauty of Balmoral beach!
Great fish and chips. Quick service. Good staff. Big portions of food. Outdoor dining with a view of the beach. Lovely atmosphere. I recommend this restaurant.
The place looks nice, construction is well built, location is good too. Fairly kid safe with the closed off tables.
The staff member serving us was so keen to get rid of us, every time I opened my mouth she’d add it and tell us the price and say “thank you”. $50 thank you, $60 thank you, it got to the point where I started ordering slower to see if she’d stop. She did not. It was just plain rude.
We paid approximately $70 for 2 fish, calamari and chips, 2 drinks. The fish was incredibly bland and lacked flavour, it literally tasted dry. The crumbs fish was dry and had a weird after taste, the battered fish was just batter and barely any fish. The calamari felt under cooked.
Sydney ‘s best fish and chips restaurant. Located at Borovilla Beach. All kinds of tasty fish dish available here.Excellent place if you are a seafood lover.
All the food we ate tasted processed and cooked badly. The fish was dry and tasteless and the calamari was chewie and probably from the freezer, certainly not fresh. For the price we paid, this was well off the mark.. Highly not recommended..
3.5 stars
We got the battered fish and chips, potato scallop and grilled rainbow trout with rice. Highly recommend the battered fish and chips but ask for chicken salt. Both fish were really fresh but the grilled trout had many bones in it. The rice was also just plain white rice for an extra $6 which is p unreasonable pricing. Potato scallop was overpriced and soggy. Quite pricey overall.
