About
Off The Hook Fish & Chips has built a well-rated reputation in Port Macquarie, drawing a loyal crowd across lunch and dinner seven days a week. With over a thousand reviews behind it, this busy fish and chip shop is a firm favourite for both locals and visitors to the area. The signature fish and chips for two is the obvious draw, but the menu runs wider than that, covering prawn rolls, salt and pepper squid, grilled fish, and fish cocktails.
The batter is consistently light and crispy, and regulars note the chips come out crunchy and golden. The clean, fresh oil makes a difference you can taste. Portions are generous, and the value-for-money packs are a popular choice for families. Staff are known to be friendly, and the venue offers plenty of indoor seating alongside outdoor space to settle in with your order.
Off The Hook is fully set up for dine-in, takeaway, and delivery, making it a practical option for a range of occasions. A kids’ menu and wheelchair access throughout mean the whole group is catered for. It does get very busy, particularly on weekend evenings when waits can stretch to around half an hour, so ordering ahead during peak times is a smart move.
For anyone after quality fish and chips in Port Macquarie, this shop is well worth the visit. Phone ahead during the dinner rush to keep your wait to a minimum.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We keep coming back to Off The Hook because it’s simply the best fish and chips in Port Macquarie! The fish is always cooked to perfection with light, crispy batter and the tartare sauce is amazing. We love grabbing our order and heading to the park overlooking the water — such a perfect spot to relax and enjoy. Our dog DaKookie loves it too, which makes it even more special. Consistently delicious, fresh, and great value — highly recommend!
Probably some of the best fish I’ve had. Chips were great, burger was delicious
Interesting little thing, the deep fried mars bars. One ball for $2.50 each. They only need to offer a full size version and it would go down a treat.
We were eager to try this place after reading the reviews however would not recommend it.
Service was abysmal. After waiting 20 minutes (and seeing people who had ordered after us receive their order), we checked to be told our food was still being cooked. After another 10 minutes, we checked again, and told, once again to keep waiting. More than 35 minutes after ordering, and, after checking for the third time did they manage to “find” our order- which had just been sitting on the shelf and not served.
We fed our disappointment to the staff, who were apathetic and dismissive.
The food itself was average. Aside from it not being hot, the grilled fish was more watery than it was grilled and was not seasoned at all. The battered fish was dry. The chips were good but nothing to write home about.
Probably the busiest fish and chips spot In town. Came here on a Sunday evening and the line was out the door. Order the fish and chips for one and waited about 30 minutes for it. Fish was nice and hot. The chips were crunch. All you can ask for. Have to pay extra for tartar and ketchup.
This fish and chip shop if off the hook. Seriously perfectly cooked, fresh, not overly oiley. Decent value for money packs. Friendly staff, great location with lots of outside space to sit and eat on the grass without too many annoying seagulls. I highly rate this place.
Gosh, totally worth standing in the heat for!
The fish cocktails were delicious – fresh, tasty, and perfectly cooked. The chips? Super crunchy and golden – you can really tell they use clean, fresh oil. Everything looked and tasted so fresh.
Great value and spot-on quality. Will definitely be back next time . Highly recommend
Firstly the fish and chips were very nice but we couldn’t understand what the staff member was saying even though she seemed very polite! We had to ask her several times to repeat herself. After we collected our food we noticed the special for two people for $9.90 on Monday Tues and Wednesday before 4pm. This was what we’d ordered and we weren’t offered the special even though it was only 330?! Didn’t have time by then to challenge it as we had to leave straight away. Poor customer service. If the owner reads these reviews, perhaps you could explain?
