Nestled between two other chipperies, this one has a good balance of fish related items on the menu – including the grilled options. Food is well priced (far better than say the Sydney fish market), and very tasty. My burger was really well cooked and had a nice taste. Chips are good – with a bit of crunch.
I only gave 1 star because the chips were the only thing we were able to actually eat and enjoy.
The fish was over fried to the point where the batter went dry and hard if that even is possible 🤔
We couldn’t even eat there garden salad that came with the combo as most of the salad was cooked and slimey and the tomatoes were mushy and soggy. My son did say that the 1.25L bottle of Lift was good 🤪
Got the reef pack (1 potato scallop, 2 garlic prawns, 2 fish fingers) for $9 and fish chips. Loved it, though service wasn’t good. A few tables for you to sit outside but it gets cold and windy as it’s located right beside the beach which can affect your dining experience. So affordable yet delicious!
Great place to get food after a nice swim at the beach or even just hanging out with friends and family. Food is amazing always fresh and very in budget for those people that don’t wanna spend alot
Hands down one of the best fish & chip shops in the Illawarra. The owners and team provide such a great service with a smile and the fish & chips are second to none. Great value for money. One of the only fish & chip shops around where the scallops are actually big with a thick slice of potato in them. Old school fish & chips with fresh produce and cooked to perfection. The grilled fish with the garlic marinade is to die for.
Thankyou Santo’s for a consistent great experience. Will always come back. Our go to fish & chips.
I’m honestly still in disbelief at how I was spoken to over the phone by the owner. This is the first bad review I’ve ever left, but this experience was next level.
I ordered through DoorDash and was quoted a 30–40 minute wait. Ten minutes later, it jumped to over an hour, so I called to ask a simple question — if I came in to pick it up instead, would it be quicker. I didn’t even get halfway through my sentence before he snapped at me, cut me off, and aggressively said, “I’m under the pump as you could imagine.”
I calmly told him I wasn’t complaining, I was literally just asking a question about pickup vs delivery — but he continued being hostile for absolutely no reason. When I called out the attitude, he got even worse. He started yelling, ranting about how busy he is, people calling him, and how he’s working — as if any of that is somehow my problem.
The entire call was aggressive, defensive, and completely unprofessional. I asked to cancel my order because I’ll never be ordering from here again, and instead of handling it properly, he just hung up on me.
After reading other reviews, it’s pretty clear this isn’t a one-off. Plenty of people have had the exact same experience with this guy.
For being such a busy day the customer service was outstanding. This will definitely be my new fish and chip shop for the future. Highly recommend the calamari and potatoe scallops.
We had a dinner for two here yesterday.
The pack contained 2 Scallops.
I find this deliberately naming ‘Potato cakes as Scallops is very misleading.
Scallops are sea Scallops (aka Tasmanian Scallops).
That’s it.
Do not call Potato cakes Scallops unless you write or say ‘ Potato Scallops ‘.
Your menu needs to mention exactly what the Seafood items are, their origin.
I didn’t even attempt these fake Scallops that were scabby Potato cakes.
Besides that issue,
The fish cocktails were bland tasteless, and the prawn cutlets, calamari rings All were overcooked and very thick batter more so than containing very much actual seafood content.
I strongly suspect that 99% of this shop’s seafood is purchased as frozen bulk packages and passed of as fresh seafood.
Come on guys ! Lift your game.
We will not be eating there again.
Very unsatisfied.
