About
Whalan Take-away has been a fixture in the Whalan community for decades, with some regulars tracing their visits back to the late 1970s. That kind of loyalty says something real about a local fish and chip shop, and the current owners have kept the momentum going with fresh, consistently tasty food and genuinely quick service.
The menu covers the classics well. Potato scallops are a firm favourite among regulars, and the chips draw steady praise for freshness and value. The burger combo is a signature offering worth knowing about, and the shop also carries options like Lasagne Toppers that keep the menu a little broader than your typical takeaway. Families are well catered for, with a kids’ menu on offer and a welcoming atmosphere that suits all ages.
Whalan Take-away is a takeaway-only operation, so there is no dine-in seating, but free street parking right out front makes it easy to pop in and pick up. The shop is known for being busy during peak times, a reliable sign that the locals in this part of New South Wales keep coming back. Service is fast even when the queue builds, which regulars with decent reviews consistently note.
For anyone searching for fish and chips in the Mount Druitt and Whalan area, this small business punches well above its size. Phone ahead during the dinner rush to keep wait times short.

I use to go here whenever I could even if I had only $2, Mick use to do 2$ chips and he’d fill that shiz man. Mick ran the shop when I was a child man about 8 years old I was & 20 years later even to this day I talk about this place. Nothing but memories now me and the crews hanging spot we use to sit and chill on those massive boulders across from the shop and sit on top lol or sit in front of the church block good tyms man thanks again Mick you the F##kN man
I live in South Australia but my family live up here in Sydney and for the last 10+ years ive been coming here to this shop EVERY time im here just to get the Lasagne Toppers ♡♡
Soo goood!
Ive watched the owners change once over the last 10+ years and theyre still as good as they used to be 💕
The food is the best I’ve found in this area so far and my scope is widespread… They’re an Asian husband and wife team, English is not the best but they do very well to understand & get by… Alway’s very busy. They’re a little business shop that is hard to beat, when it comes to freshness, and taste! I like that they’re fussy and clean! 4**** s out of 5****s
Best takeaway food we have had in a very long time! The service was lightning quick! Highly recommended!
Food was decent but what upset me was the fact my Pluto pup was nearly drowning in Chicken Salt….
Just because I ask for salt or chicken salt does not give you the go ahead to drown my food in it. I had two seperate full puddles of chicken salt in the takeaway wrapper after I was finished with one. The second wasn’t any better…kinda very disappointed
Have been going to this shop since 1979 when we moved to Whalan. Still eat from there regularly. They should bring back fresh cut potatoes for there chips, they were the best. Still good food and great value.
Food is the best for the prices. Very cheap and satisfying. The best customer service top, so polite and welcoming!
Had burger combo and chips at an unbelievable price + 50c extra for a coke. Had 2 crunchy hot potato scallops which were a little on the greasy side but when aren’t they greasy. Will return again
