About
Windale Takeaway is a well-regarded fish and chip shop serving the Windale community for lunch and dinner, with a solid reputation built across a healthy number of reviews. The menu covers classic takeaway fare, and regulars in particular favour the works burger and pineapple fritters, with the burgers drawing consistent praise for being made to order and packed with flavour. The fish and chips are the core draw, and on a good day they deliver exactly what locals are after.
The shop is cashless, so cards or bank transfer are the way to go before heading in. It is wheelchair accessible, family-friendly with a kids’ menu available, and free parking is on hand. There is often a short wait, so a little patience goes a long way, especially during the dinner rush.
Feedback over time has been mostly positive, though a handful of visitors have noted inconsistency, particularly with chips on quieter days. The experience tends to be straightforward rather than polished, with a no-fuss counter service style that suits a quick meal stop. The shop is clean and the food, when it hits the mark, is well worth the trip out to Windale.

We have been going here for quite a while but today was gross. We had to throw the chips away. They were terrible ,tasted like cardboard and looked revolting. Very disappointing experience. Perhaps the oil wasn’t fresh? People spending good money for this. Do better.
Just ordered a spring roll with 2 fish pieces and chips, everything is under cooked not salted and the fish/chips went cold because they accidentally cook a chicko roll and then i had to wait for them to cook a spring roll.
New owner already ruining the place.
Went there yesterday and it was terrible. Food was so much worse than it used to be. Saw the oil the food was cooked in and it looked really brown. Lady staff member was still there from previous owners and was the only good thing about it. Definitely won’t be going back!
The place has gone to shit since the old owners! This food is disgusting was burnt from grill the oil was soaked through hashbrowns to the point it’s all in bottom of paper!food is nothing like it used to be all the ladies that use to work there use to do such a great job… such a shame won’t be back! Don’t waste your time either!
Went there today and was left feeling like i wasted my time waiting for my food, almost half an hour just to make my fish and chips with 2 scallops, fish was extremely oily and tasteless, chips tasted like year old oil was used more like brown cardboard instead of crunchy golden chips, scallops looked good but very undercooked hard potato. Well not go here again.
Stopped by for a burger, was made just the way I like it by default with onion as an option, meet was a little on the thin side but wow what a good burger, this is certainly made my list of favorites..
The fish and chips here is very good. The shop is dated but seems clean. They don’t take cash so if that’s what you have you need to pay by bank transfer. Service is a bit gruff, bit otherwise the food is always good.
Best fish and chip around love the works burger and pineapple fritters have been coming for years !
