About
The Station Cafe and Takeaway is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in Woonona, on the New South Wales coast, with a strong reputation built on generous portions, fresh fish, and consistently friendly service. The batter is noted for being crisp and light, with the chips cooked to a proper soft-inside, crunchy-outside finish. At the prices on offer, regulars feel they get solid value for money, a quality that keeps the local crowd coming back.
The menu leans classic. Potato scallops are a favourite, the hamburgers earn praise for being well-seasoned and full of flavour, and the seafood basket is a highlight, packed with fish cocktails, prawns, calamari, a scallop, crabstick, and chips at a price that would be hard to beat. The shop has the feel of a traditional Australian takeaway, clean and unpretentious, with a small number of seats inside for those who prefer to eat in.
The Station is family friendly, with a kids’ menu available and free parking on hand. Both dine-in and takeaway are catered for, and the shop accepts card and mobile payments. The relaxed, casual atmosphere suits a quick lunch stop or an easy dinner, and the counter staff are known for being warm and welcoming.

Service was fast and friendly, lovely blokes behind the counter. Food was great – one star off for slightly tough chips and batter. The fish seemed a mixture of pieces, some perhaps commercial and some hand-battered, but all cooked fresh to order. The cocky at our accommodation nicked a calamari ring and ate all the crumbing 😉
Fantastic old school fish and chip shop. Shop was really clean, staff very friendly. A few seats inside but pretty close to the beach. Hamburger was so flavoursome, onions nice fresh salad well seasoned burger. Delicious potato scallops really thin potato crispy batter. Great chips generous portion.
The battered fish, chips and can is $13; fish is fresh and batter nice and crispy. Chips are perfect. Nice to take to nearby beaches and enjoy dinner with a view.
Classic takeaway shop, very generous portions for good price. Chips are really soft inside and crispy outside. I enjoyed the seafood basket (there were 4 fish cocktails, 1 scallop, 3 prawns, two calamari, chips, crabstick for $17 which is well priced ) but my sister in law said it required more beer batter.
BTW for some reason Google had the wrong address. I’ve submitted an update but if you can’t find it, it’s right at the roundabout at the train station
Would Return. Recommended.
A classic family operated takeaway, with good value and fair prices across a wide menu.
Seafood Basket – For $17 you get fish, shrimp, scallop, fish cake and chips. Pretty decent value for 2 people to share. These were some of the best chips I’ve ever had, very reminiscent of high school corner shop chips. Crisp, fluffy, good amount of chicken salt. Comes with a small tartare sauce.
Have Returned. Apr 2025.
This is officially my #1 spot in NSW. Highlighter yellow chicken salt? Yes. Beef fat fried chips? Yes. Great value for your dollar? 100.
Absolutely fantastic.
some of the best bloody seafood I’ve had. Got the fish chips and can a drink pack for 14$. Bought some extra seafood sticks and calamari. Quick service and at a reasonable price, perfect after coming back from a swim.
Definitely brings back memories from the 70s and 80s when chips were hand cut and at the bottom of the butchers paper was the nice crunchy chips Definitely a must if you enjoyed your fish and chips like that in those days … Yummo
2 crumbed barramundi fillets and a medium chips. Fish cooked perfectly and we couldn’t finish the tasty chips. Very polite young ladies serving. Recommend.
