About
Woonona Beach Shop is a takeaway fish and chip shop serving the Woonona community, with a menu suited to families, solo diners, and visitors passing through the area. The shop covers lunch, dinner, and brunch, and a kids’ menu means younger diners are well catered for. Free parking is available on the street and in the adjacent car park, and the venue is wheelchair-accessible via the car park.
Payment by card, debit, and NFC mobile is accepted, which keeps things straightforward at the counter. Delivery is also an option through third-party platforms, and the owner has been known to reach out directly to customers placing online orders to confirm preferences around sauces and seasonings, a small but genuine touch.
The shop draws decent reviews across a broad range of visitors, though the experience has been inconsistent for some regulars. A number of long-time patrons have noted that the chips and potato scallops have not always met the standard they once expected, and there have been isolated reports of orders not being prepared correctly. Expect a wait during busy periods, particularly at peak meal times.
For anyone in the Woonona area looking for a casual fish and chips option with family-friendly appeal and convenient parking, the shop is worth checking out. Phone ahead during the dinner rush to avoid any delays with your order.

Waited almost an hour to get the wrong order with it not cooked – fish was supposed to be battered and it grilled and was partially raw and scollops were raw on the inside tried to call but no one answered and too far away to make it back for closing we have been going for years but under new management and kids practically running the place $53 dollars for a meal we cannot eat will not be going back!!! Picture of chips was a small for 6 dollars!! Rediculous
I don’t like being harsh, but this was honestly the worst chips and potato scallops (still raw) I’ve ever had. I waited 30 minutes, and they were so bad I couldn’t eat them. It was like getting leftover chips that have been sitting in the fridge for a few days and then reheated in the microwave. Definitely wouldn’t recommend Save your money & time.
As a regular since the 90’s I’ve always enjoyed this shop … last couple of times doesn’t seem the same , the chips used to be awesome but now they taste like they have been cooked to many times and the potato scallops where inedible ( over fried and bad fishy oil taste) …
We had high expectations of this ‘old school’ fish & chip shop, unfortunately the calamari was processed, chips were dry. Fish was nice but overall very disappointing.
Ordered through Door Dash & the owner messaged me directly to ask about the sauces & seasonings we would like for our order.
Excellent service and the food was fantastic and delivered piping hot.
This place used to fantastic. We just ordered fish and chips. It was inedible. Dried out fish, rubbery, bad taste. Everything was over fried and dried out. Disgusting.
Yesterday I got fish and chips and I had a weird feeling from the get go. There were flies all around sitting where the seafood was kept in the front counter, no gloves were worn, no hygiene at all, staff picking up food with their bare hands. At one point I witnessed the man pick his ear and then put some calamari with his bare hands in the fryer.
We then went down to the beach and the calamari and fish were inedible. The calamari were sponge-like, I don’t even think they were calamari, and the flathead was so fishy and sour with a strong odour. A few bites in we could not eat anymore.
I woke up last night with severe food poisoning and it was due to this as the fish was the last thing I ate. I recommend going to the fish and chip shop just a few meters away on the corner.
Well well well. What a memorable meal.
The workers did not use any sort of glove or tongs to handle the food- using their bare hands to touch the pre frozen imitation crab and fish that tasted greasy and made us feel unwell. I observed a worker handling cash then proceeding to directly handle the frozen fish, to which flabbergasted us. We did not finish the seafood pack as it tasted like the oil had not been changed in years. The crab claw was complete imitation with a claw stuck inside. The calamari rings tasted cakey and did not get remotely close to a calamari ring you would taste from a Woolies. The salmon cake was completely processed as well, and we could not taste any remnant of salmon. Overall, the meal was excessively greasy and made us all feel sick afterwards. McDonald’s felt more hygienic than this place.
