About
Clarence River Fishermen’s Co-Operative in Yamba is one of the more distinctive fish and chip spots on the New South Wales mid-north coast. The co-operative sources fresh seafood year-round from the Clarence River estuary and surrounding oceans, which means the catch on the menu reflects what local waters actually provide. Fish of the day options, including mullet, are a regular feature, and the fisherman’s pack is a popular choice for those wanting a solid, affordable meal.
Portions are generous. Regulars and visitors alike note that the chips are crunchy and the fish fresh, and the lunch specials offer solid value at accessible prices. The service is friendly and, at busy periods like Saturday lunch, the kitchen keeps things moving at a reasonable pace. Outdoor seating and undercover areas make it a workable spot for families, and the shop is fully wheelchair accessible, including the car park, entrance, and seating.
Dine-in and takeaway are both available, and the venue is family-friendly with a kids’ menu on offer. Free parking is provided nearby. Credit and debit cards are accepted. No delivery or reservations, so walk-ins are the way to go.
For anyone exploring the Yamba area, this fish and chip shop offers genuinely local seafood in an unpretentious, casual setting. Phone ahead during peak lunch hours if you want to avoid the queue.

I did read the reviews beforehand, but most of them are giving 1 star reviews when they didn’t even eat or are notorious for giving bad reviews.
I found the staff pleasant enough, got standard chips (as expected), prawns were very good, and the oysters were amazing.
No, it wasn’t the best seafood ever, but it was really good, had a lot of tasty elements, and actually was very fair value.
I don’t know if most people here expected a Sydney seafood restaurant type quality, if they were, they certainly wouldn’t be paying as low as this.
Anyway, I will be back. Oysters were the best I’ve had in a long while.
The staff were friendly and helpful—especially appreciated since my husband is gluten-free and they assisted where needed.
Unfortunately, the food was hit and miss. The chips were underwhelming, and despite asking for chicken salt, we got regular salt. The kids enjoyed the chicken nuggets and calamari, but we didn’t receive their included drinks, which was disappointing.
The biggest letdown was the grilled fish. All three portions looked like they’d been stewed in their own juices and still had scales and bones. That really sealed the experience for us.
Overall, I probably wouldn’t go back or recommend it.
Terrific prawns
This place gets some very poor reviews, so we didn’t have high expectations. We dropped in every afternoon for the first 2 nights of our Yamba stay and didn’t like the look of the fish that was on display. On day 3 we dropped in at lunchtime and spotted some fresher local flathead fillets! We ordered 3 fillets and a “small” serve of chips – this turned out to be a generous feed for my husband and I and pretty good value at $37. We did have to navigate our way around a few bones and fins, but it was worth it! On day 4 we dropped in and bought 1 kg of prawns which we had for dinner at our holiday rental that evening! They were terrific! In my opinion that’s the best thing to buy there. If you do want cooked fish – I think it’s better to come for lunch as all the good stuff seems to be gone by dinnertime!
Very surprised by so many negative reviews.
We had fish and chips for only £10 per person.
It was a generous portion and, above all, very good !
The lady at the counter was very friendly and the service was impeccable.
We love seafood and eat fish and chips regularly, and this shop has nothing to be ashamed of.
Unbeatable at that price, even the chips were very good.
Thank you !
Amazing fish and chips, we got the fish of the day ( mullet). The food was fresh, service was amazing and such a great selection! No idea why they have a lower rating but deserve 5 stars!
Great little spot by the water, busy at peak lunch time but quick and friendly service.
Affordable prices and decent portion.
Got the fisherman’s pack for $25.
Seating area available undercover as well as outside.
We stopped in and got the $10 lunch special each. Fish was fresh and chips were crunchy. Very busy!
Saturday, around noon, ordered two portions of fish and chips for $10 each. Fresh and tasty. So large we couldn’t finish all the chips.
