I feel awful leaving such a poor review but I don’t think have had such bad fish and chips in my life. They may have had a problem with fryer, I’m not sure but everything was soggy like the oil wasn’t hot enough, worst calamari I have had ever
I should have known when I asked for crumbed whiting and they said that it’s all pre battered
Is that even whiting? Didn’t taste like it
Would not go back, the place at Lawnton train station is way better
This shop has always been our go to for fish and chips. But just got home with our regular order today only to find our chips were overcooked soggy and almost looked like they had been sitting for some time and reheated scraps….not happy the standard of food coming out is definitely dropping. If this keeps up we certainly won’t return.
Amazing. My friend Jess has been telling me how good this place is for months and months, I finally had chance to go and it lived up to and exceeded all expectations. The chips were both crispy and soft and the same time and I just could not stop eating them even when I was so full from the fish burger. The fish burger was fish bits not a fish patty which is so much better, I’m quite fussy with fish and I really liked it, cooked so well. The potato scallops are practically famous, a must try. Staff were friendly and very helpful, amazing cooks. The price is the best especially for that quality of food.
Considering the reviews, I was quite disappointed with the quality and portion sizes of the fish and chips. I guess I’m used to other fish and chip establishments giving decent portion sizes but barely felt satisfied. Chips were hard, some dry, barely seasoned and quite a small portion size. Fish was okay being moist and not too oily. Paid for tartare sauce that I didn’t get. Guess that was partially my doing since I assumed it was wrapped together with the good. The server was very friendly though, but shame on food quality.
I decided to give it a try because of the good reviews. I ordered the seafood pack for $17.50. The place itself was not busy, but it took about 20 minutes to be served. There were about a dozen tables set up beside the shop, and it was nice to be able to sit down and eat in peace. The chips were tasty. However, the rest of the seafood did not seem very fresh. Both the fish and the squid were dry inside.
We’ve gotten lots of orders from here, but the quality of the food can vary.
Sometimes everything is hot, tastes freshly cooked and the chips are nice and crunchy, other times it tastes like things have been left out of reheated and the batter on our fish is chewy, as are the potato scallops.
When they get it right, they do it so well. When they don’t, well, it’s just disappointing.
Asked for small chips & 2 potato scallops, got a lot of chips & a dagwood dog. I however got a grilled piece of fish. Won’t be going back ! Fish is disgusting, not grilled !
Some people comain it isn’t as good as when Steve owned it but I’ve gone here numerous times since it was sold and the food quality has always been great. Crunchie chips, tasty fish and delicious pineapple fritters! And my kids love the chicken nuggets!
