About
Burleigh Heads Fishmongers is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in Burleigh Heads, Queensland, with a loyal following built on generous serves and consistently fresh seafood. With over 850 reviews and a solid four-plus-star reputation, it has earned its place as one of the more popular spots on the Gold Coast for a proper sit-down seafood meal.
The menu leans heavily on fresh local fish, and the snapper in particular draws praise for its beautiful texture and perfectly crispy batter. Calamari is another highlight, known for being buttery, soft, and sweet, served alongside a house tartare sauce that regulars tend to rave about. Battered flathead, goldband snapper, and dory all feature, and the chips regularly get singled out for being spot-on. Potato cakes (known locally as potato scallops) round out the classic offering nicely.
The venue is set up for both dine-in and takeaway, with outdoor seating, a bar, and table service on site. It has a relaxed, casual feel that suits families well, with a kids’ menu and high chairs available. The space is fully wheelchair accessible, including car park, entrance, and seating. A wait is pretty common, especially at peak times, so arriving a little early for lunch or dinner is a good idea. No reservations are taken.
Open most of the week from late morning through to early evening. Worth a visit for anyone after quality fish and chips in the Burleigh Heads area.

Good atmosphere located in the central street of Burleigh. Good place to sit and just watch the world go by. Fresh seafood on display looks great, however I got some hot chips which were $5.00 for a smallish amount and 4 potato cakes which were $2.00 each. Average chips and average potato’s cakes. Don’t look like they are home made as they were all the same size and cut. Bit of a letdown as the place looks good.
The fish was good, the serving size was big, and there’s a toilet inside (just ask for the key). The fries were amazing. Will definitely recommend!
Great concept Fish & Chip shop with a fresh seafood cabinet facing the street.
Genuinely beautiful fresh oysters and sashimi that were prepped and purchased straight from the cabinet.
Calamari was also perfectly cooked.
You can take away and eat on the beach or dine in.
On a winter’s day inside seating is cosy with street views and I got to enjoy a beer with my seafood order.
Access is flat, some high seating but definately space for those travelling on wheels✅🧑🏼🦼
Pathways are sealed to this venue with All Access parking close by and communal All Abilities toilets not far away.
Neurodiverse, you’ll like the cosy protected space, the vibe and the lighting is great✅😎🎧
Literally the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. So good. I wish I could have finished them. Fresh. Crispy. Soft. Beautiful texture on the snapper. Just perfection.
One of the best calamari we’ve ever had, so buttery, soft, and sweet, perfectly paired with an amazing tartare sauce. The battered dory and cod were just as impressive, beautifully sweet and even better with fresh lemon squeezed over the top. Absolutely delicious and well worth a visit.

Having just moved to the Goldcoast we have eaten at Fishmongers several times. The first couple of times we had great service and good food.
Unfortunately our last two meals have been sub standard. We ordered crumbed fish cocktails and chips. 3 of the 6 fish cocktails were so small we were struggling to find the fish and the chips were overcooked and dry.
Not very appealing or appetising.
We are lucky there are a lot of other places to eat.
I love the fish it’s so yummy and fresh! I wish you would fix your salads though, I have been buying from your store for years and there is always way too much capsicum in the Greek salad. Yesterday more than half the container full of capsicum! (PSA no one likes that much capsicum). Also potato cake a little undercooked. It would be 5/5 with those things fixed.
Really enjoyed our meal here, staff were very friendly and helpful.
Cafe had a relaxed beach vibe. You can eat in or get takeaway, we chose to eat it.
Had the battered flathead, potato scallops, battered goldband snapper with a medium serve of Caesar salad.
Our friends chose the sashimi set.
Could not fault the meals.
Personally I preferred the delicate sweeter serving of flathead but companion was very happy with their meatier serving of snapper.
I didn’t try the sashimi but it was highly rated.
Highly recommend, will visit again.
