About
Burleigh British Chippy brings an authentically British take on fish and chips to Burleigh Waters, Queensland, with hand-cut chips, thick crispy batter, and proper fillets that have earned the shop a well-rated reputation across hundreds of visits. The focus here is on doing the classics right, and the result is a shop that regulars return to with genuine enthusiasm.
The fish is known for its golden, crispy exterior and light, flaky interior, cooked fresh to order and notably free of the greasy heaviness that lets many chippies down. Chips are cut in-store by hand, old-school style, and the portions are generous enough to raise an eyebrow. A lunch special, for instance, has been known to feed two. The sauces are a talking point too, with several regulars singling them out as something a little special.
Beyond the fish and chips, the menu extends to burgers and other British fast-food favourites. The shop is family-friendly with a kids’ menu, and dine-in seating includes an outdoor area. Takeaway and delivery are both available, and the venue is fully wheelchair-accessible with accessible parking and entrances. Payment by card or mobile is accepted, and free parking is on hand both on-street and in the lot.
Open for lunch and dinner Wednesday through Sunday, Burleigh British Chippy suits a casual midweek meal as comfortably as a weekend family outing. Phone ahead during dinner service to get your order in early.

Really tasty British fish and chips. Fish was crispy outside, soft inside, and the chips and sausage were super crunchy. The sauces were special and very delicious.
Forget everywhere else. If you want real, proper fish and chips, then this place is your only choice. Thick fillets of perfect fish with thick, crispy batter and REAL hand cut chips. Everything cooked perfectly and not greasy or oily. I suspect the mushy peas are home made because they were full of flavour, and the curry sauce took me straight back to the Southbrook Estate in 1980! Sadly, the boss wouldn’t share the secret recipe. I’m so happy to have found this shop. Truly a great meal. Thank you
There are few things in life as perfect as a proper serve of fish and chips, and this one was next level. The fish was golden and crispy on the outside, light and flaky on the inside, and tasted unbelievably fresh. No soggy batter here just that satisfying crunch you hope for with every bite.
The chips? Hot, thick-cut, perfectly seasoned and cooked just right crispy edges with a soft, fluffy centre. The kind you keep eating long after you’re full. Add a squeeze of lemon, a dash of chicken salt, maybe a bit of curry sauce and suddenly all is right with the world.
Simple, comforting, and done exceptionally well. I’d come back again and again without hesitation. 🐟🍟
The serving sizes are old school, I got a lunch special and it could easily have fed myself and a friend. The chips are cut fresh in store. This store is exactly what an old store fish and chip shop use to be.
Service was excellent, not over the top. Worth a stop in.
Oh my goodness the fish & chips was amazing . Huge portion . The wait was definitely worth it . Great chippy
Seen this fish&chips store online famous for how similar it is to the UK’s fish&chips and it tasted pretty good!
We ordered a small cod and chips but it was HUGE! We didn’t finish it. Anyway, the chips hit the spot, a bit soggy but salted nicely. However, the fish (cod) didn’t taste like cod.
Unfortunately service was a let-down.. the staff were unfriendly and looked grumpy. Food also took a bit to come out. Hopefully this improves as it is a nice place.
Ordered a basic fish and chips with a side of calamari.
Appears the oil hasn’t been changed in 3 years and the calamari was left cooking for an hour too long- felt like eating rubber!
Chips were soggy and tasteless.
Extremely disappointed and will not be returning- can think of many other places to spend $45.
Hi there, just wanted to to say how dissatisfied I was with the service tonight (7/3) We waited an hour for our food and when I finally went up to enquire I saw it sitting in the warmer, and it had the name Allan on the label, but it was my order ( my name is Carol) We had been given a bell but it didnt buzz so clearly didn’t work. Customers were giggling about the fact an order for Allan was being called out but we had no idea it was our order. I ordered a battered sausage and chips with a cod . When I got home there was extra fish pieces and no sausage, plus it was almost cold after being left in the warmer for ages. It was my husband’s birthday treat so we were both extremely disappointed.. I did leave you a message and hoped you would have responded, but nothing but radio silence.
