About
The Happy Fryer is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in Daisy Hill, Queensland, drawing a loyal crowd with generous portions, quality fish, and a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. The menu centres on battered and crumbed fish, with flake, cod, and crumbed snapper among the standout options. Potato scallops come in notably large sizes, and the chips consistently earn praise for their crunch on the outside and soft texture within. Beyond the fish and chips, the menu stretches to dinner packs, seafood platters, and classic burgers, including a burger with the lot that regulars appreciate for keeping the traditional touches, pineapple included. Sides like coleslaw and garden salad round things out for those wanting a fuller meal. The shop suits families well, with a kids’ menu and outdoor seating for those who prefer to eat on site.
Dine-in, takeaway, and delivery are all available, and the venue accepts card payments with free parking on site. Staff are generally described as friendly and prompt. Fantastic fish and chips, super fresh and perfectly cooked. Highly recommend the crumbed snapper, garlic butter calamari and beer battered chips. Snapper were nice, thick pieces, perfectly crumbed and cooked – best fish in years! Thanks guys, keep up the great food and service 😊
I’ve been here a couple of times already. Each time, the food was fresh and delicious, even half an hour before closing time. The dinner packs and seafood platters are great, and the coleslaw and garden salad are amazing. Portions are generous, so you won’t be hungry after finishing your meal. The staff is friendly, and the place is quite clean. I can definitely recommend it.
As usual perfect chips with crunch and soft on the inside. It is great to see the original works burgers or burger with the lot and the option of adding pineapple on the menu, The Happy Fryer have it right, not like these new fancy places around. Fast, friendly service, well looked after clean environment. Highly recommend.
$10 worth of chips here barely is enough to feed two people.
I went to another chip shop just a week ago and paid $7 and it was enough to feed at least 5 or 6 people .
I will
Never go back here it’s actually ridiculous how much they charge you for a small serving of potato
Our group of 7 adults commented on how nice the chips were. Those that had fish thoroughly enjoyed the flake and cod. The potato scallops were huge. $20 of chips perhaps wasn’t quite enough. Staff were wonderful. A great local business…well done.
Worst seafood meal ever, we tried to order flake, they were out of it and was convinced that the cod was nice, we also ordered a serve of chips 3 potato scallops and 2 services of calamari.
The fish was dry, the calamari was so tough that it caused pain in 2 of my teeth trying to eat these rubber teething rings. The scallops were dry and chips tasted like they were refried. Out of a $50+ meal $40+ of it has gone straight in the bin
Visiting fm Canberra! My first red emperor fish batter! Very good – we had flake, cod and emperor. It was a takeaway service only, luckily we stayed near enough for our fish to stay crisp and warm! Will come back
We had an eat-in lunch. One battered, one crumbed. The batter was beautifully thin, crisp and oil-free. The crumbed cod was likewise fat free. Service was very pleasant and courteous. The meal was served on a plate with cutlery. Not your normal fish ‘n chip experience. Will definitely be back and we’ll bring friends with us.
