About
Kiwi Fish N Chips brings a distinct New Zealand flavour to the Helensvale fish and chip scene, and it has built a well-rated reputation across more than 600 reviews. The point of difference here is the menu itself. New Zealand Tarakihi and hoki appear alongside the more familiar Australian offerings, and the battered sea scallops draw particular attention from regulars who recall them fondly from across the Tasman. The batter style sits somewhere between a light Japanese tempura and a classic Australian crumb, producing a crisp, golden coat without heaviness.
Chips come out large and generously portioned, and the kitchen turns orders around quickly even during busy lunch and dinner periods. Friendly, approachable staff are a consistent theme, and the comfortable waiting area makes the usual queue feel less of an imposition. A selection of classic Kiwi desserts rounds out the menu, which is not something you find at most Queensland fish and chip shops.
The shop is family friendly with a kids’ menu available, and dine-in table seating is on offer alongside takeaway. Wheelchair access is provided at both the car park and entrance, with free parking close by. The venue does get busy, so phone ahead during the dinner rush to manage wait times.
Worth a visit for anyone in the Helensvale area who wants something a little different from the usual fish and chips experience.

Wonderful fish and chips! Especially if you ask for the New Zealand Tarakihi. This is an awesome tasting fish. The chips are large and tasty.
Fish and chips was ok . Price of $16.50 was bit much for a piece of fish and chips .
I had no lemon for fish, and only half of chips was covered in chicken salt . Little bit of garnish , some salad with vinegar would go along way. Take away box was great . Just missing lemon , chicken salt and garnish 👍
Would I order again ? Probably not .
Another hidden gem, and this place did not dissapiont. Lovely friendly cx service from the staff, and the food was piping hot and cooked to perfection. The sea scallops was battered which I haven’t had since NZ, but not onlynwere they fresh, but they were damn near perfect👌 The chips and dimmies also lived up to the hype, but definitely needed a side of lemon and some salt & pepper. Perhaps staff could also offer a complimentary vinegar sauce with every order , as this is the only thing I didnt have or were offered .
First time at this place. Awesome staff and a comfortable waiting lounge suite.
The batter was really really nice – IMO between tasted Japanese tempura and Australian batter.

I’ve been getting fish and chips here every Sunday for quite a while, but the service has really started to go downhill. I phoned my order through at 6:16 p.m. and was told it would be ready in 10–15 minutes. I arrived at 6:30, but it looked like my order had been forgotten. I asked a few times if they’d missed it, but each time I was brushed off with no apology.
I ended up waiting until 7:00 p.m. — almost 45 minutes after ordering. If they were that busy, they should have just given a later pickup time when I called. That’s why I phone ahead, so I can go straight in and collect it.
When I got home, the chips still had no chicken salt (even though I reminded them after they forgot last time), and the calamari was overcooked with some tiny pieces.
The food itself can be good, but the service and consistency have really dropped off. A friendly attitude and an apology when things go wrong would make a big difference. I really hope they can get back to how they used to be.
The potato fritters had very little batter and were raw. The steak in the sandwich was so chewy i needed to cut it up. Has there been a change in the kitchen?
They need to learn how to batter a fish. The last few times Ive eaten here the fish has hardly any batter on it, there’s nothing better than a crunchy battered piece of fish but the chips were pretty good.
Very quick friendly service… scallops are 100% perfect, light batter and hoki was moist and flaky. Plus some classic kiwi desserts to finish.
Came recommended to me and I’m passing it on
