About
Macleay Island Takeaway is a well-regarded fish and chip shop serving the Macleay Island community, a short ferry ride from the mainland in Queensland’s Moreton Bay region. With a strong reputation built across a solid number of reviews, it has become a favourite stop for both island regulars and visitors making the trip across the bay.
The seafood menu is a clear drawcard. Regulars point to the generous serving sizes, with fish available grilled, battered, and crumbed to suit every preference. The calamari rings have earned particular attention for their size and quality, and the fish selection is notably broad. Chips are cooked consistently well, making the classic fish and chips combination here a reliable meal at fair prices. A substantial burger with the works has also won fans, packing plenty into every bite.
Beyond the seafood, the shop surprises with a few extras. Fresh carrot cake is a standout for those after something sweet alongside a coffee, and the broader menu offers more variety than a typical takeaway. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, with dine-in available for those who want to sit and eat. The shop is family friendly, wheelchair accessible with accessible parking and entry, and accepts card and mobile payments. Free parking is available on-site and on the street.
For anyone visiting Macleay Island or lucky enough to live there, this fish and chip shop is a genuine find. Check opening hours before making the trip across.

Such a friendly club, with a fantastic outlook direct across the ocean and the other islands.
Great drinks, excellent food, good prices, and Live Entertainment. Loved it.
MI Takeaway always impress! Excellent fish and chips, great serving sizes, cooked to perfection – grilled, battered and crumbed.
The calamari rings are enormous. The fish selection is extensive. A regular family treat 🐟 🍤
Hidden Gem on Macleay Island!
Tucked away in the heart of Macleay Island, this little fish & chip shop absolutely blew us away! The seafood was freshly cooked to perfection—both the crumbed and beer-battered options were top-notch. We especially loved the succulent scallops, giant calamari rings and the fresh, local prawns.
The beer-battered chips were golden, crispy, and addictive. And don’t skip dessert—the fresh pineapple fritters, dusted with cinnamon and sugar, were next-level. So good there wasn’t a crumb left on the plate!
While it’s mostly geared for takeaway, there are a few seats available—but bring some insect repellent just in case!
I love carrot cakes and they had a fresh tasty carrot cake. I struggle finding fresh carrot cakes from mainland cafes so was very happy to find a fresh and tasty one to go with my coffee! 😊
A mean burger with the works, a real handful 😋 of enjoyment with every bite. Fish and chips are not bad either and at a good price. Enjoy.
Have ordered takeaway several times and never disappointed in the quality and taste. Fish servings are anything but small and the calamari is tender. Living on my own so there is usually leftovers for a late night snack or lunch the next day
Disappointed,used to be really good.
Fish was tiny, potato scallops were bigger.Potato scallops were powdery, just like frozen potato scallops, used to always taste fresh.
Always a good feed & quite often adds a little bit extra. Thanks Pete
