About
Harold’s Seafood is a well-known fish and chip shop on the Townsville Strand, offering a solid spread of battered fish varieties that includes flathead, barramundi, and mackerel. The signature dish, battered flathead fillets with chips, draws regulars back time and again, and the broader menu extends to calamari, prawns, and scallops. Combo deals like the Seaside Pack make it easy for couples or small groups to try a range of the menu without breaking the bank.
The batter here gets consistent praise for being crispy and light, and portion sizes are described as generous. Service is friendly and the turnaround is quick, which suits both sit-down visitors and those after a fast takeaway. Delivery is also available for those who prefer to eat at home.
Harold’s is family-friendly, with dine-in seating that includes outdoor areas and free parking nearby. It caters well to families with kids in tow, and the variety of fish and seafood options means most people find something they enjoy. For anyone after fish and chips in North Ward or across Townsville, Harold’s covers the essentials and then some.
Phone ahead during busy lunch and dinner periods to keep wait times down.

Worst fish & chips ever!!!!
Expensive, rip off. Ordered the family pack paid around $70 yes $70 had to pay for the public holiday surcharge & also had to pay for lemon wedges as well – come on!
The grilled fish was like rubber would be the cheapest fish maybe basa & the calamari was horrible! There were too many chips we threw them out. Soooo bad, don’t bother going. will be ringing the store tomorrow to speak to management – but I doubt it would make a difference. I really wonder how this shop still exists in the main strip of North ward with this bad quality food. If I could give no stars I would.
Grabbed some take away. Phone ordered then picked up. Fresh, generously sized fish, and calamari. After reading some poor reviews we thought about not ordering. I’m glad we ordered anyway. Part way through dinner, I remembered to grab a picture. I would happily order another meal from there again..
Great feed, I had the fisherman’s basket. Best fish n chips meal I have had in a long time. The staff were very friendly. Will be back
Perfect location for some quality fish & chips.
We had the Seaside Pack, 2 fish, 2 prawn, 2 scallops, 2 calamari & chips. $45 ideal meal for two.
The fish is a good size & nicely cooked, crispy batter & delicious.
The scallops are large & very nice. The chips are great especially with some chicken salt. With the essential tartare sauce & lemon wedges in total about $50.
I see some reviews claiming this place is overpriced but this is total nonsense. You wouldn’t spend much less at McDonalds these days for 2 people & you would be far worse off.
Perfect location, friendly service with short wait time.
I can highly recommend Harolds especially for a take away. The food is wrapped up well & will stay hot so take a short walk & find a spot near the water & enjoy.
Ordered mackerel it was like it had been frozen for 2 years. Also found bones in one piece and batter was under cooked do not recomend
Absolutely delicious fried seafood!!! Well worth the price, we were 2 people and got the couple deal! It was fresh and tasty and very filling!
Really lovely fish and chips place! Tried the mackerel, barramundi and flathead fillets (all battered and fried) with a side of chips. Would return!
If you’re looking for a quick, reliable seafood fix without the fancy restaurant prices, Harold’s Seafood is a great shout. I ordered the grilled Barramundi for $14. While the portion wasn’t huge, the fish was perfectly prepared and very tasty. It’s a nice alternative if you don’t want the heavy fried food that most people come here for (most guests seem to go for the Fish and Chips for $18).
Keep in mind that this is more of a high-end takeaway or “fast food” style joint rather than a sit-down restaurant. There are options to sit both inside and outside. The atmosphere is exactly what you’d expect from a local chippy—simple, casual, and functional. It’s a straightforward spot that does exactly what it says on the tin. Good quality seafood at a reasonable price for a quick lunch or dinner. I’d definitely come back for the grilled fish again!
