About
Toowong Fish Market is a little different from your typical Queensland fish and chip shop. Operating as both a working seafood market and a full sit-down restaurant, it brings together a fishmonger’s fresh produce and a proper fish-and-chip kitchen under one roof. The result is a wider selection than most comparable venues in Brisbane, with everything from classic battered fish and calamari to sashimi, oysters, prawns, and specialty frozen seafood including eel.
The kitchen has a strong reputation for freshness, and regulars note that the fish genuinely tastes like it came straight from the water. Calamari gets particular praise. The batter is consistently on point, and the service is known for being both friendly and fast. Cleanliness is another thing the venue takes seriously, with the shop kept to a noticeably high standard.
Toowong Fish Market suits a range of occasions. Dine in at one of the indoor or outdoor tables, grab a takeaway order, or arrange delivery if you’d rather eat at home. The venue is wheelchair accessible, with an accessible car park and entrance, and free parking is available on-site and on street. Payment by card and NFC mobile is accepted. For those who want to take fresh seafood home to cook, the market side of the operation is well stocked.
A well-rated spot for fish and chips in the Toowong area, and genuinely worth a visit for both casual diners and seafood lovers looking for something beyond the standard menu. Phone ahead for larger orders during busy lunch and dinner periods.

One the the few best places in town. Fresh seafood taste like it just out of the sea. Super friendly and quick service. Much more options compare with other fish&chips out there. I’m a very detailed person, the shop is very clean, not many seafood shop can get that clean out there. This is a indefinite 5 Stars Business. Love to support my local business!
I honestly can’t recommend this place higher for fresh fish and chips. It is now a go-to every time my wife and I come back to Brisbane from the Middle East as the fish and chips are always perfect. Cooked fresh and always on point – lots of selection and good deals such as their lunchtime specials and meal for 2 (see picture). The gentlemen who operate the store are always friendly and polite which adds to the enjoyment of the visit.
Inner city fishmonger at Toowong has not only fresh seafood , a fish n chippery onsite . Had the calamari and was great . and array of fine cuisine frozen seafood such as eel . Brilliant service . Tables inside and outside and ocean decor . Only reason I gave 3 stars for ambience is that a few plants outside would be lovely and reconfiguring tables . Eg big large rectangular table to move from takeaway ordering area and put somewhere else to open up takeaway area
We just grabbed some sashimi, oyster’s, and shrimps for tomorrow – super nice team 👌… fingers crossed all will taste as awesome as the ‘fish platter for two’ which we had at home – yummmm 😋😋😋
Rude and impatient, be the Aussie casual or the Chinese fishmonger. Salmon sashimi charged 90 /kilo, not sliced. When asking if they would help slice it , the kid gave a frown and said they wouldn’t as it’s selling cheaper. Anywhere in Brisbane is selling sliced salmon sashimi at 75-95aud range, not to mention the salmon choice is limited there. New Farm fish factory unsliced is offering at 56.9… way fresher and better service. Used to eat there but getting worse and worse from time to time… See you next time? Thanks, but no thanks
I ordered via email and asked them to set aside the oysters for me, which they did. Service was good and friendly. Prices seem fair. We paid $130 for 4 dozen Tasmania oysters (St helen and boomer bay) and 1/2 dozen Sydney rock.
Fresh oysters, and reasonably priced cooked seafood. Friendly staff.
This is our second time visiting this restaurant.
We ordered sashimi and oysters — both were super fresh, with no bones and great hygiene.
The prices are reasonable too: AUD 27.99 for sashimi and 15 for oysters.
We plan to celebrate every festival here from now on!
Much better than the sushi served at the conveyor belt restaurants around here.
