My partner and I have visited Townsville a few times and have tried many Fish n chip shops and until today hadn’t found one even satisfactory.
And this trip I found West End Take away via Google, read the reviews and thought it would be worth the 7km drive to try.

Served by Janelle, we were greeted with a smile, she was so welcoming and friendly.
We ordered a Dinner for 2- 2xBattered Mackerel, 2xCrumbed Prawn Cutlets, 4xCrumbed Calamari and a scoop of chips with a complimentary Homemade Tartare sauce made by Janelle, EVERYTHING was cooked to PERFECTION and TASTED so bloody GOOD🤤

This place is just as good as Tobins, but in different ways. Tobins is modern, this is classic. I’d rate this little place a 10/10 as far as traditional Aussie fish and chip shops go. Fresh, well cooked, affordable, quick and service is great. Can’t wait to try burgers!
This place really has an authentic local vibe! The owner is incredibly kind, and the food is affordable and delicious — absolutely fantastic. It’s the most memorable spot in Townsville!
The older lady was abusing at the other worker the hole time I was there, didn’t have buns for for fish burger so the used bread and no compensation what so ever. Food was good though
A Very nice lady made me the Very best fish and chips I have since moving to Australia 13 years ago. The fish was perfect and the chips and patato scallops were excellent. I highly recommend.
A local treasure! I used to work next door to west end take away. Janelle and her team run a great business with the freshest fish and chips in Townsville. I have never met anyone more hard working than Janelle. Great food, generous servings at fair prices. Dinner was amazing thanks girls!
