About
The Fish Man is a well-regarded fish and chip shop and seafood market in Blackwood, South Australia. It operates as both a takeaway and a retail seafood market, meaning visitors can pick up fresh seafood to cook at home or have it cooked on the spot. The combination of fresh-cooked meals and a working seafood counter gives you options most suburban chippies don’t offer, with a menu that goes well beyond the usual offerings.
Calamari features as a popular choice, and the batter on the fish draws consistent praise for being fresh and well-executed. The chips earn their own mention too, described as spot-on alongside quality fish. More unusually, the shop also serves yiros and falafel, and regulars clearly appreciate both. Octopus has also made an appearance as a purchased item, hinting at a seafood selection broader than most suburban spots.
The team behind the counter, including Arthur and Julie, are known for being accommodating and consistent. For anyone hunting fish and chips near Blackwood, the fresh seafood market paired with a kitchen that clearly takes quality seriously makes this one of the more interesting stops in the Adelaide hills area. Free parking is available nearby, and the shop has indoor seating for those who want to eat in. Phone ahead if you’re planning a visit during the dinner rush.

Just checked out The Fish Man and loved it! They’ve got a great selection of fresh seafood that you can either take home to cook or have them cook for you right there.
The indoor seating is nice and cozy. The food is super fresh and tasty, and if you’re not in the mood for seafood, they’ve got burgers and steak sandwiches too.
The staff are really friendly, which makes the whole experience even better. Definitely worth a visit!
The food is lovely thank you but I’m put off ordering anything other than regular fish & chips. Presentation is poor and many items aren’t named ( salads & fish). If the window display looked attractive I would definitely buy my fish here 😊.
Amazing quality and top notch, as just as good and better than most pubs. The fish is fresh and well battered and the chips was awesome. Can’t speak any more highly. Service was great as always. If you haven’t tried I would definitely go. Wont be disappointed. See you again shortly. Thanks.
The best food experienced I have had in a long time
As a Lebanese I would say that they have the best falafel Yiros as the flavours was bursting in my mouth 😍my son had the calamari pack and he loved it!!!

Fantastic fresh fish and chips!!
Arthur and Julie and the team are always very accommodating.
Has to be one of the best places in Adelaide for fish and chips.
The last purchase was octopus .
Purchased the NT barra and asked to grill it. Amazing taste and quality. Have been here multiple times and the place is consistent with quality.
I recently bought fish and chips. After eating it, my family felt unwell. It didn’t seem fresh and was quite oily. Unfortunately, we won’t be purchasing from here again.
Dropped in for some traditional fish and chips for my first ever visit. Found all staff to be pleasant and very helpful. Chips hit the mark and were crunchy. The fish was spot on and cooked perfectly. Pleased I made the journey to try their offerings.
Next time I’ll be requesting a peice of fish from the display case which is in addition to their standard line-up of fish species. They sell fresh fish by the kg, and will cook up any peice for an additional fee.
