About
The Chook Shed is a casual fish and chip shop serving the Christie Downs community with dine-in, takeaway, and delivery across lunch and dinner. The menu leans broader than a traditional chippy, with roast chicken, crumbed sausage, chicken nuggets, butterfish, and egg and bacon rolls sitting alongside the expected chips. Halal food is available, there’s a kids’ menu, and the venue suits families as well as solo diners. Outdoor seating, free parking, and a wheelchair-accessible entrance and car park add to the convenience.
Regulars with a soft spot for baked potatoes rate them highly, noting well-cooked spuds with fresh fillings. The shop is known for a clean space and friendly counter staff on good days.
That said, the experience here can be inconsistent. Some visits have been marked by long waits, mixed-up orders, and food that wasn’t hot on arrival. The decent volume of reviews suggests the shop stays busy, though results have varied enough that phoning ahead to confirm orders and current hours is a reasonable precaution, particularly for evening pickups.
Worth a visit for a casual meal in the Christie Downs area, but phone ahead during the dinner rush to avoid delays.

They forgot half my order, chips and gravy and chicken chipees but kept the coin of course ..
Chook is moist but not tasty fritters were greasy …
I won’t be back here .. -1☆
Not even to get my 8 bucks back
I found the shop very clean and the people friendly. Spuds are perfectly cooked and fillings fresh. Highly recommended. As one who’s travelled all over Australia eating baked spuds these are up near the top. . Will go back again 👏😋😋✅
waited 45 minutes for 2 potato fritters, banana fritter & chiko roll. Food was cold & it was a pineapple fritter. Food in the bain marie was there when I got there & still there when I left as I knew the person on the order. When I spoke to the man next to me waiting for min. chips there before me, boss made a rude remark, he thought it was aimed at him but obvious she was calling me a name & I said so. The previous owners managed well with the equipment & only a poor tradesman blames his tools. I now drive extra 4km for takeaway.
I Just called at 7:30pm on the 12/06/2025 regarding making a pick order for an AB pack. The phone manner was absolutely appalling, when i asked for an AB pack i was told that they are closed, i replied with “oh no i thought you guys were open till 8pm” as what states on their google page. Unfortunately i didn’t even receive a response from this lady she rudely hanged up on me. If i could give zero stars on customer service i would. Which is annoying since the Chook shed has incredible food but the way i was spoken to and treated i unfortunately will be taking my money elsewhere. I cant even say who it was since no name was given, in fact i asked the lady how she was all i got in reply was (good) in a yelling manner then complete silence.
Only gave me 2/3 calamari in the seafood chest and No tartare! The yiros packs were a joke! Half a handful If that of shredded chicken! What a rip off!!!! Chips were good that’s about it!!!
I wouldn’t know how good the food was because the bloody shops never open anymore the sign on the front door says early to late, yet they were closed at 8:30 tonight
We have gone here for a year constantly and recently unsure if new management or not but the food just sucks, chicken undercooked, burgers look and taste disgusting, stingy on Yiros packs and price has gone up, after a year of continuously being a customer we no longer will be ! Very dissapointed
I ordered a burger and chips on the weekend. They were soggy and saturated with oil. They tasted like old oil. The burger bun was fresh but the patty was the same as the chips. Most of the meal ended up in the green bin.
