About
Champion Takeaway is a well-regarded fish and chip shop on Beach Road in Christies Beach, drawing a loyal crowd of locals, families, tourists, and university students alike. With a solid four-plus star reputation built on over a thousand reviews, it has earned a firm place in the southern suburbs of Adelaide as a reliable stop for classic takeaway.
The battered flake with homemade tartare sauce is the signature, and it earns consistent praise. Regulars describe the batter as thin and crispy, the fish fresh, and the tartare sauce as something that lifts the whole plate. Chips come out well-seasoned and not oily, and the gravy is the old-style kind that pairs perfectly with a serve of crinkle-cut potato. Dim sims, salads, and a chicken burger are also popular choices, and there is a kids’ menu for younger diners. The pricing is considered generous for the quality on offer.
The shop does get busy, and a wait during the dinner rush is common. Staff are consistently described as friendly, which goes a long way when the queue stretches. Takeaway and delivery are both available, parking is free out front, and the entry and car park are wheelchair accessible, making it practical for a wide range of customers.
Worth a visit for anyone in the Christies Beach area. Phone ahead during peak times to keep the wait manageable.

Staff were all amazingly friendly, chips were crisp and not oily. Fish was very fresh and lovely thin crisp batter, totally happy with experience. Lemon a nice touch.
I love Champion. There’s no ifs or buts best take away in Christies Beach and beyond. The chips and gravy are that old style crispy chips and tasty gravy, if you want a fabulous chicken burger this is your place, the dimmys and the salads, top notch. Just get in there. You won’t be disappointed.
Great food & service highly recommended.
Beach road Christies Beach is fast becoming a tourist locality with the amazing food & stunning boardwalk on the esplanade.
Excellent fish and chips, wonderful homemade tartare sauce. Batter cooked to perfection, chips perfectly seasoned. My family and I had a wonderful meal, the pricing was more than adequate for what we paid for. We will definitely give Champion Takeaway a revisit soon!
Phenomenally good tasty, crispy flake with really nice tartare sauce which seemed home made. Chips were also nice and crispy with lots of potato. Staff were very friendly and gave generous portions. Highly recommend ordering from here.
Its obviously a busy place and the staff are trying their best and are friendly, but when you pay $45 for a meal you want at least the majority of it to be edible. The fish was okay and the chips are meh, but the burger? Absolutely not. I ordered the hunga busta. The bun was hard and crusty, egg cooked to death, 1 slice of pineapple and 1 slice of beetroot, and 1 thin burger patty. Maybe worth taking it off the menu if the team is unable to quality control 😔
Its a takeaway store. Rotisseried chickens look great, havent had one yet.
Great food and the value for money is spot on.
Lamb yiros is scrumptious if a little too much filling for the Pita bread.
Chips are also very good.
Keen to try out thier salads as they look superb.
Steak sandwich was also very largly loaded, be prepared to wear some of it, though its worth it.😁
The best fish and chips that I’ve had in years. The portion sizes were generous too. We ordered by phone and despite it being a busy Saturday evening, they managed to have our order ready on time.
