About
Barnacle Bill in Port Augusta is a well-regarded seafood specialist that draws in travellers, families, and locals alike across the Spencer Gulf region. With a solid four-plus star reputation built across hundreds of visits, it has become a reliable stop for fresh, cooked seafood on one of South Australia’s busiest transit corridors.
The menu leans firmly into seafood, with prawns and calamari among the most praised items. The Prawns and Calamari Snack Pack is a popular choice for a lighter meal, while larger groups tend to reach for the Crew Pack for six to seven or the Family Feast. The Burger Bonanza and Lunch Special round out the options for those after something more casual, and dessert gets a nod with the Hazelnut Chocolate and Crunchy Nougat Gelati on offer. Barnacle Bill’s own tartare sauce accompanies the seafood, adding a house touch that regulars appreciate. Portions are generous, and the food consistently comes across as fresh and well-prepared.
The venue is fully wheelchair accessible, family-friendly with a kids’ menu and high chairs, and offers dine-in, takeaway, and delivery. Table service, reservations, parking, and coffee are all available, making it a comfortable stop for everyone from road trippers breaking a long drive to families settling in for dinner. The space is kept clean and the staff are known for being genuinely helpful and welcoming.
For anyone passing through Port Augusta or making the run between Adelaide and regional South Australia, this fish and chip shop is a worthwhile place to pull over. Phone ahead during busy periods to keep wait times down.

Really decent servings. Prawn and calamari and fish were all excellent. Toilets and venue clean.
Been this place as pit stop for gas and food. We google and found barnacle bill. Visited and found the place to be decent for food and rest. Normal facilities e.g. toilets and car parking lots. All are fried food stuff.
Good service and clean place to have a pit stop. Food is nothing much to talk about
Update: Back through Port Augusta on another of many crossings and, yes, this time we deliberately sought out Barnacle bills. Once again living up to our expectations of fresh seafood at reasonable prices. New photo… Sunday afternoon and nothing was open in Port Augusta except Barnacle Bill’s. So glad we took the time to find it. The pickled seafood marina was chock full of tangy delights. The Barra was delish and an extra couple of pieces of Whiting, all crumbed, were perfect for two. The coffee was spot on as well. Staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. Recommended.
The staff here are very very nice and helpful. Good customer service. The food was surprisingly fresh and tasty. I definitely will be coming back
Very clean and nice with good behaviour staff.
Love popping in for a feed at dinner time when I travel up from Adelaide on holiday, make the long drive from airport worthwhile before tackling the drive through onto whyalla after a long day
Stopped here on the way back to WA and had some of the nicest fish n chips I’ve ever had.
I’ll be be making a point to stop here for lunch on future trips across.
