About
Semaphore Fish & Chip Shop is a casual spot in Semaphore, South Australia, serving both lunch and dinner for takeaway, dine-in, and delivery. The shop keeps things relaxed, with no reservations required, and welcomes families with a dedicated kids’ menu. Free parking is available nearby, making it easy to stop by without fuss.
The menu draws on classic fish and chip shop fare, and at its best the food earns genuine praise. Regulars note that the batter can come out light rather than greasy, a quality that keeps people coming back. The shop also serves pineapple fritters alongside its fish and chips lineup. Staff are generally described as happy and accommodating, and the shop’s policy of not adding a public holiday surcharge has won it some loyal fans in the local Semaphore community.
Reviews are mixed, which is worth keeping in mind for first-time visitors. Experiences with batter crispiness and freshness vary, so ordering during a busy service when turnover is high tends to get the best results. The shop accepts credit cards, debit cards, and contactless mobile payments, so there is no need to carry cash.
For anyone in the Semaphore area looking for a fish and chip shop with dine-in and delivery options, this one covers the basics and then some on a good day. Phone ahead during the dinner rush to avoid a longer wait.

Ordered fish & chips here tonight, the batter on the fish was soggy, it tasted as though it had been pre-cooked, I wondered why my husband didn’t take long buying it, I couldn’t even eat the fish, the chips look like they have been sprayed with orange colouring, chips I cook at home are not this colour. This place used to be amazing but seems to have gone down.
Hello Janet,
Look at your picture posted, it is definitely not our chips, the colour is orange while our chips is bit white to yellow if it is not overcooked.
Also we do not use box to hold the chips to customers, all chips are wrap in the paper hand over to customers.
In addition, it looks like it was cooked from frozen chips but our chips are all freshely cutted every day.
It’s extremely delicious. The food is tasty and the boss is very friendly!
We were staying nearby and bought dinner here…. EVERYTHING from the fish to the chips, to the pineapple fritters was FANTASTIC! The best fish & chips we’d ever eaten. The food wasn’t oily like most fish and chip shops tend to be. The chips were fresh, crunchy and the seasoned salt DELICIOUS! Usually pineapple fritters have too much soggy batter but these were PERFECTION! We will defo be back again. Well done Semaphure Fish & Chip Shop. ♥️
Must be new owners been a year since we been here used to be fantastic. Absolute rubbish now ordered 6 fish and chips came in a brown box individually either they did not change oil or it was not hot enough when cooking Garbage the seagulls had a feast.
Where to begin…. I was the first order of about 5 behind me, I watched every single order go out before mine.
The chips were undercooked in dirty fryer oil and look liked they were 100 years old or so.
My microwaved gravy was gluggy and cold.
My overpriced Chicken Snitzel burger with fake plastic cheese and overcooked frozen snitty was the topper.
Will never return, if your wanting anything quality, avoid here.
Great shop food really good happy staff.
A public holiday no surcharge for a public holiday unlike the Sotos across the road !!!!!!!! Will return to the Semaphore Fish & chip shop again .
The food is so bad I don’t even think a dog would eat it….. waste of time and money. The chips genuinely smelt like rotten food and looked like they had been left out for a year before serving them
