About
Bridport Takeaway is a women-owned fish and chip shop serving the small coastal town of Bridport in northern Tasmania. With a relaxed, casual atmosphere and both indoor and outdoor seating, it suits everyone from families stopping in for lunch to solo travellers passing through on a day trip.
Flake is clearly the star of the menu here. Regulars and visitors alike rate it as perfectly cooked, not greasy, and well-portioned for the price. Chips come in generous serves, and the shop is known for solid value, something that gets noted again and again by people who have eaten their way around plenty of Tasmanian takeaways. Scallops also feature, with one popular combo of flake, chips and scallops drawing plenty of praise from those who make the stop.
Beyond fish and chips, the menu spans breakfast and brunch through to late-night food, with vegetarian options, small plates, desserts, and a kids’ menu covered. Coffee is available too, making it a handy all-day spot. The team behind the counter has a reputation for being welcoming and unhurried, even during busy periods.
Bridport Takeaway holds a well-rated reputation across nearly two hundred reviews, which is a reasonable signal of consistency for a shop in a town this size. Dine-in, takeaway, and catering are all available, the venue is family-friendly, wheelchair accessible, and dog-friendly with outdoor seating and free parking on site. Phone ahead during the dinner rush.

Bloody wonderful
It has been ages since we’ve had decent fish & chip shops, especially value for your money, and the Flake is awesome, and it’s perfectly size👌 highly recommended.
Closest thing to NZ fish n chips I’ve found in years! Flake was perfectly cooked and they were the best chips. And not greasy at all. Give yesterdays cook a pay rise!
Was $31 for 2 flake, chips and 4 scallops, with plenty of chips for 2 and some seagulls.
Really nice feed thanks. Will be back.
Food was great only forgot to add my fish to my order so had to pay 2x. Has a outdoor table to eat and bins for rubbish
A great stop along our way, the ladies behind the counter were lovely and put up with our indecisiveness and the food was amazing! After reading lots of mixed reviews we’re glad that we stopped as it was delicious!
Perhaps good for seafood. Burgers were well overpriced. Was all frozen products and light on salad and fries.
Sorry to say will go elsewhere next time.
New management the day we had fish and chips, and despite being hit hard that first night and wait times probably being longer than they would have liked, they managed well and were super lovely. The fish was awesome and the kids devoured the chips. Thanks for dealing with a stressed out mum with compassion on a busy night 😊
Terrible food. Small piece of fish that was incredibly dense. Calamari rings were rubbish (probably fake) and dull chips. In the seafood/fish pack they also put in a salad with two slices of plastic cheese. Not worth $29….
Friday Night not that busy. We ordered two pieces of fish and asked if there is lemon with the fish? The answer was yes .After a 1km walk to the camp ground the only lemon is the service from Bridport takeaway. So I called to say hey the lemon is the difference between a good experience and a bad one. The response from the call was “come back and get a lemon”
So the stars above apart from the initial good service and price, comes down to a piece of lemon.
