About
Reel Fish and Chips is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in Launceston, Tasmania, offering a fuller dining experience than most. With dine-in, takeaway, and delivery all available, including a no-contact delivery option, it suits everything from a quick weeknight feed to a relaxed sit-down meal. Outdoor seating, a bar, Wi-Fi, and full toilet facilities round out the amenities, and the venue is wheelchair accessible throughout. Dogs are welcome outside, and free street parking is close at hand.
The menu leans into quality Tasmanian produce. Battered flake is a clear highlight, with the batter crispy and well-executed, and the fish itself fresh and generously portioned. Salmon also features, served with a house-made sauce that regulars rate highly. Crumbed prawns are another favourite, noted for being juicy and full of flavour. Beer-battered fish paired with chunky chips seems to be the order many people come back for. The venue also carries Tasmanian wine, which pairs well with a proper sit-down fish and chips meal.
The shop delivers strong results across many visits, with service consistently warm and attentive. The menu caters to halal dietary requirements, and there are vegetarian options and a kids’ menu for families. Catering, reservations, and small plates are also on offer, which gives the venue flexibility that goes beyond a standard suburban chippy.
Prices run a little higher than average, but most regulars find the quality justifies the spend. Phone ahead during busy dinner service to keep wait times short.

Truly crispy and chipy felt like delightful experience I had with these guys. They really know there fish and chips and most certainly there amazing batters. I would certainly recommend beer battered fish with crispy chunky chips with lemon and tartar sauce.
Battered Tasmanian flake is hard to beat and the portion I had here was as good as it gets- fresh, nice size, delicious batter and perfectly cooked. Complemented by the bright friendly service and delicious Tasmanian wine by the glass.
Great outlook and location on the marina walk!
Worst fish and chips I’ve had in a very long time. Portions are tiny. Fish was mostly batter, calamari rings worse than the stuff out of Woolies/coles. In their defence, the prawns were ok. I’ve attached a photo of the $8.50 fish and chips I got at Launceston general hospital cafeteria to provide an example of what an actual reasonable fish and chip meal should look like. It also tasted a lot better. I suppose this is more of a testament to how good the chefs were at LGH. Then again, I should not be having to compare hospital food to restaurant food…
You can argue most of the almost $30 for that fish and chip meal went to the ‘atmosphere’ and ‘view’ but I would not rate a few boats and views of the local park as something to brag about.
Friendly, very pleasant staff. Pleasant atmosphere. The fish & chips were reasonably good, crumbed prawns were tasty and juicy. A bit pricey though.
We tried Salmon here and it was one of the best in Tasmania. Their homemade sauce took the taste to the next level.
Melt in your mouth fish which you can tell has been sourced fresh. Chips were good, though have had better. All the side dishes and sauces on offer.
Rather quiet for a weeknight and was planning to shut earlier than it said on here.
Absolutely great place!
Some of the best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time!!
And the service…
Superb!
Went in for a quick meal, only $20 for a large enough meal to fill my stomach with enough energy for the long work night I had ahead of me!!
All the people working were very polite, respectful, and really quite helpful!
I couldn’t have had such a great night that night if it wasn’t for Reel Fish and Chips, their food and their service!!
Fantastic!
Definitely will go there again.
And definitely worth it if you haven’t been before.
-A very satisfied customer!
Top 3 worst fish and chips I’ve ever eaten, batter was so oily we couldn’t taste any fish at all, received half a handful of chips. Table we sat at was filthy. Expected more for the location and prices.
